Flexipop comps

Postby anemiccinema » Tue Sep 19, 2006 11:42 am

Yes,
It is quite funny though because the prices for these records did not go off the roof it seems till those compilations were created and of course EBAY... Quite honestly most of these records were bought from spending too much time looking in the unwanted boxes thrown on the floor (you know what I mean)...discovered because there was a mention of synthesizer on the flip .Bands like Gerry and the Holograms were bought for 50 cents to a dollar in dusty bins. Now they go for like you said $100-150.. I could not believe a Futurisk 7" I had went for $250. These records were a dime a dozen because he was a local bloke... and they just sat in bins for years. I am bemused by the excitment in observing the Minimal synth frenzy from hard-core collectors today. In all earnest these obscure records definitely recorded a period of uncensored much less pretentious creative DIY spirit of time most likely never to be re-visited or lived again. Good memorabilia of good music and discovery. I loved making cassette tapes for friends..and was involved heavily in the tape culture mythos of the 80's-90's (with Antebellum and friends of Harsh reality's Chris Phineny and SOP Al Margolis).. GROWING UP WITH Alternative rhythms and fanzine creations.. and we loved putting on an the odd tracks or a funny recording creating a theme etc... Each time trying to outdo the next one. Of course recording tunes and pulling off a show and hanging out with soon to be stars and sometimes just barstars. Most of the tracks on the compilations were culled from 7".... which was not always the first thing you put on your turntable. These tend to be the abandoned lot of music... because many times an LP won it over ... Not being lazy but changing a record every 3 minutes can become tedious. So the compilations put it all in one package..
Please get the compilations and do more research and discover many new exciting artists ... thats the whole idea.... I was so excited to find a multitude of new artists to my favorite list... I never realized bands like Gorilla Aktiv had a full release, Shanghai au go go, Solid Space, Basking Sharks (had an LP), Testcard F, Valek was Informatiks, The Fast set had an LP. etc.... Flex it Babe.(I see vision)... the closely palindromatic one

At one point, I actually toyed with the idea of hunting down much more of the vinyl, but the few items I have now total about $1,000.00 U.S. so purchasing too many more will be unlikely. Even if you do find a copy, it's likely not in the best condition. Sometimes you get lucky though...I got all the Basking Shark releases for 10 pounds from a band member.

The Minimal Electronic records are now fetching the same prices as punk and hardcore records. It seems once a song makes a comp, any comp, and people hear it they price goes thru the roof. I've been lucky enough to score a few pieces for cehap, but I can't afford a Gerry & The Holograms 7" no matter how brilliant I think the song is.

On top of that, my collecting days are behind me. For most records I am just as happy having a good sounding re-release as I am the OG vinyl. I have no one left to impress with having a certain record in my collection, my collection is for my listening enjoyment, and the enjoyment of those with similar tastes. The Ruth 7" of Roman Photo just went for about $150 on ebay. I love that song, but I've got a good enough version of it on the So Young But So Cold comp, and that's good enough for me.

For now.

<br>Ollie--dont limit yourself to seeking out "flexipop"-- "Shockwaves" and "New Wave Complex" are also somehow part of the same group--another 20 or cds worth of stuff.

Anyone know of any torrent sites where I could grab these from?

What really annoys me is that I bought a couple of those CD's,payed Euro 30 and when received, they were just burnt....So expensive for no reason. Liked them however and heard a track by NINE CIRCLES and another one by SILVIA who don't seem to be able to be traced anywhere.

Hey Bob,

Someone told me on NWO that there is actually a German CD release of Nine Circles stuff. I'm sure if you do a search on here it'll pop up...

When the series started I bought several comps for about 10-12 euros each, because I really liked the idea of having these comps that I could find some more music, that I could love and to know more bands which made some similar music.

After getting and have paid for 15 Flexipops and 10 New Wave Complex I quit because: 1. The quality of the recorded tracks are sometimes really awfull and 2. the compilers (i know both by personal contact) choose not the "best" tracks from the artists, but getting more and more in the mood of making the most obscure compilation

But:
Some of the tracks had the wrong IDs and others have scratches on it...
Funny story: As my wife bought the 1ére Class 7" we thought, that it must be a different version then on the NWC, because something was different, but we didn't know what at once. Afer listeing several times we know: On the NWC CD (original-one) was the same track, but the 7" had a scratch and there is a "jump" in the song... Very great, you have to pay for something with a fault...

Notice:
The Flexipop & NWC are not a give and take thing, the compilers want money for the CDs !!!
Some Bizarre is different and I like this idea of exchange and working together.

I really like Minimal-Electronic and electric New Wave music, but don't want to pay 100 or more €/$ for a record. I don't care for the item, I'm more intersted in the music than having the biggest and most expensive record or tape collection.
I paid a lot for several records especially for my DER PLAN & RATIONAL YOUTH collection, but these are my alltime faves [;)]

Plastikmann, quite very usefull info...I was aware I had to pay, but thought that at least I wouldn't have to pay as much for just burnt CD's.
Tell me something please, where can I find any of the free comps you mention (some bizzare...)?
Also, many mention p2p or torrent sites where they can find the flexipop comps and download them. I do not have ADSL and do not know about such interesting things ( [;)] ), can you tell me ? Have you come across anything ?
