Anybody remember Win?

Moshi moshi, hombres!

Here's a Q that's been bugging for me for a while that hopefully some of you could help with. Does any of you remember a Scottish act in the mid 80s called Win? They were always on the cusp of breaking through in the UK but circumstances dictated otherwise and they split after just 2 albums. I'm particularly interested if they ever appeared in the States or released any singles there - there was an ubiquitous Dance Mix of their biggest nearly-hit You've Got The Power which kind of implies that some material did make its way across the pond - you also occasionally see some imported 12"s on Ebay in the US.

Their music was a poppy mix of synths and guitars, with their singer Davey Henderson (ex-Fire Engines) very much like Marc Bolan. I'd urge anyone who likes their 80s synth-heavy stuff to check out the singles You've Got The Power and Super Popoid Groove. Here's my website dedicated to the band for those that are interested in them.

The only song I remember from Win is Super Popoid Groove. KROQ used to play it frequently (for about a month or two), and then nothing more was heard by them.

YUP Freaky Trigger I also remember WIN's "YOU'VE GOT THE POWER".[8D] It was released here locally on MANILA during the NEW WAVE HEYDAYS which was included on our LOCAL VINYL COMPILATION called "THIRD WAVE". I remember also hearing the song at DZBM POWER105. It's a good song![;)]

... thanks for the update fellas, interesting stuff (especially about a release in the Phillipines!) It's fair to say that when it comes to US radio stations, the only one that the average Joe Public would know in the UK would be KROQ (although I remember the comedy series in the 80s called WKRP in Cincinatti).

A fella I know has sent many mails to the record company in question asking them to rerelease it but with no joy. His opinion is that Davey Henderson has blocked such a release, he even refuses to discuss his 6 years with Win to this day, and with his successful reactivation of the Fire Engines over the last 18 months its unlikely it will ever see the light of day again.

You're right about the CD for the first album (my alltime favourite even if it has the worst name ever : Uh! Tears Baby (A Trash Icon) !!) going for bonkers money on Ebay, varying between 75 and 150 quid ($130 to $280 I think). Makes ya wonder if this is the record paid for a CD that was widely commercially released?
