Where are the 80's club people now?

New Wave/Punk music, culture, genres, memories. '80s revivalism and other relevant topics.

We went to the "WLIR Reunion" night at the Garden City Hotel back in the spring, and I could swear a UFO came down in the Spit parking lot in 1986, scooped up a dozen people and dropped them off in 2006 wearing the same stuff.

My favorite memory of LI clubs was winning the "Spotlight Dance Dance" at Malibu all the time. It wasn't because I was a good dancer (in the least), it was because I was a WLIR intern, and Donna Donna would bust my chops by picking me out. It fas fun for the girlfriend, but the prize was usually a cassette of something I already had on CD.

I saw a stand up comic at Governor's a few years ago joking about how we'd dance to anything back then. What was the German techno tune in the late 80's with the "guns-knives-fire-burn" chorus? Good dance tune, but I kept waiting for the train to the concentration camp to pull up. What the heck were they on about?

Amazing how many Long Islanders there are on this board! Sorry that it's all us ruminating, but it goes to show how powerful a little station like WLIR really was. Such a shame there's nothing like that anywhere on FM radio today.

BTW - Nitzer Ebb's "Join In the Chant" was the song I was thinking of. I remember dancing to it, but thinking it sounded like a nazi rally set to dance music!

Well I was one for clubs all over the UK including but not limited to Camden Palace, The Hippodrome, The Mud Club, The Embassy, Barbarellas (Birmingham), Mars Bar and Nightmoves (Glasgow), Pips in Manchester etc.

Seen bands like Depeche, Tubeway Army, Shock, TnT, Pleasure and the Beast, Visage, Klaus Nomi, Human League, Simple Minds, Berlin Blondes, Fotostat, Marilyn (Ha Ha), Philip Japp, Japan, Bill Nelson, Fiat Lux, Modern Eon, Associates, Thomas Dolby, Soft Cell etc. etc.

Where am I now? At home working on a project plan for a new broadband product launch as a 44 year old Ops Manager :-)

Gone is the Red and black hair with shaved sections and jewelled and gold metal conical coned hair styles.

Here's a little Thrush trivia question:
What song was the last song played most nights at Thrush? Hint---it was not a new wave or punk song

To Sir with Love.....right on the money. Adam and I went to High School and college together. Actually, Paul went to college with us too!
I can't believe Adam married Andrea after all that time. That's awesome! Who was your sister?
