NEW WAVE MAGAZINE

Postby empyrean » Wed Nov 22, 2006 9:56 pm

Please help me. Is there a music magazine out there who features only new wave bands? Before, i had a copy of REFLEX Magazine with Primal Scream on the cover. Then the SPIN magazine of the 80's also features New Wave bands.

In our country, we have THE SCORE magazine during the 80's which features local New Wave bands.

I havent seen one in a while so any recommendations?

Thanks!

I don't think any NEW magazines exist.

The TROUSER PRESS was always my Bible in the 1980's but they stopped publishing by 1985. Although they put out a pretty good music guide book a few years ago.

There are some helpful magazines that focus on the Independents. MAGNET is a bi-monthly magazine that has some New Wave elements to it. I haven't subscribed to it for about three years but they used to give subscribers a free 20 song CD in every issue with samples of Independent label songs.

Right now empyrean, there's no specific NEW WAVE MAGAZINE available. I remember our locally printed SCORE MAGAZINE. There were only three issues released back in the 80s. The first issue that has the cover that includes pictures of JESUS AND THE MARY CHAIN, NEW ORDER, SIOUXSIE AND THE BANSHEES, GENE LOVES JEZEBEL. I love the 2nd and 3rd issue because it has the cover of JETT PANGAN(THE DAWN) and COOL CARLA(IDENTITY CRISIS).I bought all of them, but I already lost the two issues. In these days, I sometimes buy UNCUT MAGAZINE,It has a free CD when you purchase it.

I used to write for LEXICON: '80s NEW WAVE AND BEYOND magazine here in the U.S. I even mentioned WXB 102 there. I interviewed the Chameleons, the Lotus Eaters, and Fra Lippo Lippi for them! That was in the late '90s-early '00s. They're gone now, sadly. UNCUT usually has some New Wave flashbacks; even Q as well.

Trouser Press is still alive online. I wrote their Lotus Eaters section.

I can't think of any new New Wave magazines that cover the older bands in print now. Your best bet is to probably go to e-bay and buy up some old Face and Smash Hits mags. They are very abundant . . . and some not really so expensive either.
