NW Songs that Make Your Eyes Tear Up

Postby guyinsf » Fri Dec 29, 2006 2:32 pm

Just curious to hear from you guys which songs for whatever reason, may it be sad, nostalgic or just utterly profound that can make your eyes tear up. The Church's Under the Milky Way makes me teary, the melody is so...I can't even describe the feeling, it's very beautiful to me and it is quite nostalgic because it takes me back to the period between the mid and late 80's when at 17, I was listening to SF's Live 105 so much and this song was played quite a bit. Sinead O'Connor's Nothing Compares to You kind of does this to me too, but not on nostalgia, just purely on the sad nature of the song and its melody and of course the video.

The Church - Under the Milky Way
Sinead - Nothing Compares to You
Blancmange - Waves

Death In June - "To the Giddy Edge of Light"
Death In June - "He's Disabled"
This Mortal Coil - "Help Me Lift You Up"

Not only are these really mushy sad/sweet songs, they take me back to a specific relationship that ended. And I happened to be listening to these albums a lot at that time.

"To Wish Impossible Things"--The Cure
The music is beautiful and the lyrics are heartbreaking. I can relate to it in a million different ways. ("In all relationships, there are always aching holes and that's where the impossible wishes come into it."-- Robert Smith)

"Nobody's Diary"--Yaz
Reminds me of the summer that my marriage hit the skids...

WAH!!!!!!!!!!!! Now I'm all depressed. [:(]

"Desire As" by Prefab Sprout. Listening to this in the aftermath of a break-up is just plain torturing yourself (it was for me back in the mid-80's, anyway.)

"Somebody" by Depeche Mode. (Sigh).

"Denims And Curls" by The Chameleons always gets me too. "Kiss them all and wave them goodbye".

I agree with guyinsf, you just can't beat the Church's.. Under The Milky Way. It's just such a beautiful song. Another which is very sad to me is Inxs..Never Tear Us Apart. That was played as they were carrying Michael Hutchence casket through the church.

The Church - Under The Milky Way
Inxs - Never Tear Us Apart
David Sylvian - Orpheus
