Sooner or later, they will realize that the best representative of NW is Joy Division, simply because that band is more in tune with the original concept of Nouvelle Vague as initiated by French film directors.

These are the same people in love with Jerry Lewis and Mickey Rourke. Meh.

I love it b/c they took alot of chances musically, and it paid off. I also love the 80s b/c they actually played their instruments and the instrumentation on alot of the music is top notch.

MUCH of the music today(IMO) is garbage, and un-innovative. I don't listen to much new music, although i really enjoyed the Bravery's new disc, b/c it sounds so much like the '70s genre.

Today, they're just rehashing what was already done in the '80s,. so they're not taaking any chances like they did back then.

YUP!! It has also a lot of SUBGENRES in it that gives it a wide range of musicality.

New wave is a strange term in itself.
I think it was an attempt of the establishment to make punk rock more acceptable.
Some of my fave bands anyway:
The Clash, The Stranglers, X-Ray Spex, The Buzzcocks, The Damned, 999, Elton Motello, Plastic Bertrand, Blondie, XTC, Boomtown Rats, Code Blue, The Neon Hearts, The Dickies, The Ramones, The Sex Pistols, Stiff Little Fingers, Wayne County & The Electric Chairs, The Dictators, The Saints, Satan's Rats, The Pretenders, The Specials, The Police, The Records, The Cramps, Joe Jackson, Graham Parker, Elvis Costello, The Angelic Upstarts, UK Subs, Cockney Rejects, Sham 69, Joy Division, New Musik, Gary Numan, Tubeway Army, Generation X, The Adverts, Alternative TV, Radiators From Space, Radio Stars, Stinky Toys, Starshooter, Hubble Bubble, The Now, Chelsea, Adam & The Ants, Bowwowwow, The Cortinas, The Drones, Anti Nowhere League, The Exploited, The Pogues, The Popes, Flogging Molly, The Buggles...and many others...

Every one here as put down so many wonderful and true reasons for loving the genre! I don't even know where to begin. I'm sure I'll repeat some of the others, but they say immitation is the sincerest form of flattery!

I love new wave because it is unique, it defies the norm, it is not afraid to be artsy for the sake of art. It reaches into the depths of your soul and means something deeper than Huey Lewis and the News could ever give you.

Everything is about being an individual, about embracing the differences and celebrating a unique perspective. The music was and still is so refreshing and ALIVE. No other genre can possibly compare!

This is why I love "next wave". I see lots of young bands out there recognizing this source and using it as an example and inspiration for their own sounds. It's great to see "kids" today trying to do what New Wave did in the 80's- reject the media status quo and create something superior.

Go WAVE!

I love new wave because all the bands and artists sound different and the music is innovative and kinda different! Even though they didn't have the technology we have today the music was often futuristic sounding and actually sounds more so than alot of pop and rock does today!Very ahead of it's time alot of it was. The image was also very creative and unique. It didn't conform to stereotypes and people experimented with their look. (Even the gothic look wasn't the cliche it has become now)The look was an art in itself I think! Sure there were some horrible haircuts and dodgy songs but overall it was alot of fun!Plus the bands wrote their own songs and played their own instruments unlike pop bands today who just sing and dance! It may sound odd but I think music has gone backwards since then and is often less creative![:p]

I love new wave because ... at the time it was the most creative and interesting music around to listen to. I agree with everything that has been said before me, too, by the way. Most of the time you could dance to it and oh what fun we had dancing ... No genre has had as many catchy tunes that stick in your head! I consider it upbeat - even the "goth" of the new wave wasn't that depressing. It was my last year of high school but mostly college days ... in Atlanta I was old enough to drink and go to clubs so all the live music I saw just sort of shaped me and changed my life at the same time. Vintage clothing, high top Chuck Taylors, Rolling Rock beer, 688 club! Those were the days!

I don't know. You'd think so but after reading this article, I think the guy's just a freak of nature.

Lectric Motors ...

I married into the Hochuli family ... and I believe they are related somewhere down the line. Ed is an attorney in Phoenix which I'm sure you already knew :) My father-in-law got his personal phone number through a connection to an NFL official who made him swear to anonymity. F-I-L called Ed who immediately said "How the hell did you get this number?" So this started the tone of the conversation... Ed wasn't too receptive to the old family tree discussion ... instead he mumbled about his son maybe being interested in that but he wasn't. The Hochuli's all originate from a village in Switzerland. My husband's ancestor was a stowaway to the US. To get a good laugh, get on Facebook. There are probably 20 + groups devoted to Ed Hochuli alone. It cracks me up! But I do agree, I like him as a ref ... but I wouldn't copy his workout routine :) Have a great day!

Thanks for the reply! It is pretty amusing how much of a celebrity Ed has become. I guess I can see why he'd need an unlisted number but being rude to your own family? Not so cool.[:(]
