The Way They Play Their Instruments

Postby Sean » Tue Apr 17, 2007 8:58 am

Some New Wavers just look really cool when they play their instruments. Here are a few of my favorites off the top of my head:

Anthony Johan Aguire - Drummer for Pseudo Echo (actually, the entire Autumnal Park Pseudo Echo line-up looks cool when they play their instruments)
The guitar and bass players for Fine Young Cannibals (love their dance)
Nick Rhodes - Keyboard player for Duran Duran
Peter Hook - Bassist for New Order
Paul & Lee - Drummer and Bassist for Talk Talk

Who are some of your favorites?

heck yeah, Peter Hook looked so totally cool playing his bass!

So did Duran's John Taylor. Ultimate in hot, very sexy.

Missing Person's Warren Cucurillo (sp) also looked really strut-worthy playing his guitar.

Stewart Copeland's incredible drumming with that seemingly impractical utensil drumstick grip of his.

The Farriss brothers and Kirk Pengilly made for some great INXS video & stage presence with their respective guitar, keyboard, drumming and sax stylings.

Though not a musical 'instrument' per se, The Cult's Ian Astbury really knew how to work his scarf festooned mike / stand to maximum effect while on stage (live & on video).

My older brother who for the mostpart couldn't standDuran Duran noted when he saw him talking in a TV interview that John Taylor was a 'cool dude' I concur! If he was any more laid back he'd be in last week, i think that was part of the appeal...

Ah yes , my friend noted Stewart Copeland's unique drum grip! It's funny I had never noticed til he pointed it out! I always admired his drum style though, he's one of my favorite drummers along with Rush's Neal Peart!

I don't recall anyone looking as stoically cool as X's Billy Zoom.

Certainly Hooky...to sneak into the stage (as he did in Buenos Aires' show) after the show ended and start playing his bass violently against the speakers, is beyond cool.
And Johnny Marr... he also looks reall cool in a non conventional way.

Joe Nanini (drummer percussionist) for Wall of Voodoo with his constant grin and his pots and pans....and Marc Moreland (guitar) for same group. He always looked down and rocked back and forth when he had to play something but otherwise he just stood there and looked cool.

Yes...Billy Zoom. Certainly among the coolest with that slightly twisted, ever-present smile on his face. Another guitarist who was always cool looking was Andy Gill from Gang Of Four. He was always staring down people in the audience. It was very cool.
