Yazoo "Get Set" on iTunes!
So why not reward people who buy physical cd's with 2-3 bonus tracks that downloaders are not allowed to purchase. Isn't this all backwards? The record companies have despised the mp3 format for years. Why don't they battle mp3's head on, reduce the price of physical cd's to 12.99 and add in bonus tracks so people will go, hey I may consider buying the physical cd cause I'm getting more bang for my buck. I remember when the mp3 vs. physical cd war first began, cd prices started going up from 13.99/14.99 to 17.99/18.99. All that did was just push the casual music lover to go towards downloading and emptied out the banks faster for collectors, which both I believe really hurted cd sales.

To answer your first point, if that were to happen then the special bonus tracks would soon find their way onto the usual file sharing sites making the whole venture futile; at least with MP3 buying sites you'll get a small amount of money for it rather than nothing.

As for the second point, here's some food for thought: when was the last time you heard of a major record label reducing the price of a CD?

Actually, all the tracks will even show up file sharing sites but for the collectors, who wants to own these tracks on a physical cd, they will still feel like they have something special. I don't know how other collectors feel but I can careless about whether or not it is floating around the net on mp3 as long as I have the tracks on physical cd. Mp3's don't really have a value in my opinion because they are just convenient low quality versions of cd tracks. You can't sell a used mp3, but you can sell a used cd and if it's rare, for a nice amount of money.

As for the label making a little money on mp3 buying sites, with "Get Set", they're not even offering it for purchase separately, they are only rewardng people who purchase the entire download album. I was ready to buy the mp3 cause I do want a rare Yazoo track but they make you buy the whole download album to get it. That's not fair in my opinion.

With regards to albums being released a lower price, I did see a few here and there. Just as an example, I remember stuff like She Wants Revenge and Tatu being released in the US for less than $10 for the album. Not sure how that actually worked out for the respective labels but I thought at the time, why would people download this when they can buy it for the same price.

Or, god forbid, release "Get Set" as a single, with a few live songs as B-sides, for those of us who aren't keen on buying a live CD (or downloading an entire live album) for one studio track. I know, I'm living in the past maaan...

I'm not sure where you all buy your CDs, but many U.S. releases go for $9.99 or somewhere around there. It all depends where you buy them. Sites like Amazon.com often have releases around $10.00-$12.00 for a single disc.

The $10-$12 price is usually for cd's that have been around for awhile. Many of the new releases or cd's out within the last year are around $16-$18 on Amazon unless you get them at some initial promotional price. Lately though,Amazon does appear to be trying to get rid of a lot of cd's by lowering prices a little more than usual but I think it's just Amazon doing it.

Doing a quick search, I do see a few items such as the new OMD album is at $13 so that is more competively priced with mp3's. Maybe with the cd's last breath, they are trying to do something.

While agreeing in principle with your first paragraph, these days record labels are so desperate for cash that the concept of rare has gone for good, unless it's do with a release for a band with a major following (oxymoron, anybody?).

Both the music and videogame industry share the same ideal when it comes to the second-hand market. The music industry would wet its pants if music would become download only, non-shareable which disappears when the serves get turned off. I'm not sure how this would be pheasible but bless their little cotton socks they'll try and find a way.

You are right that it has been tried but little more than a marketing gimmick, I meant a pricecut throught their whole range. You would of thought that since they're not keen on downloads (even now) that the oppurtunity to price something at a similiar level of an mp3 would appeal to them as it would get people buying their beloved CDs. Turns out they want their cake and eat it and it's not turning out too well..
Does anyone know if there actually any plans at all of releasing a dvd for the "Reconnected Live"? I think I asked this on some other post but can't seem to find it. It's just a shame if they are not because that was such a great show and just to have stuff like "Too Pieces", "Mr. Blue", and "Softly Over" as a performance to watch would be so amazing.

I doubt it, I went to the Hammersmith Apollo gig, which was amazing, but Vince & Alison were absolute opposite ends of the stage & it was a very sparse set.

So not a great deal to look at !!

I think I read on the yazoo website a direct response from Vince and Alison regarding a DVD release. They said something about one of the shows being filmed but the footage was not very watchable. The live CD packaging does have some great photos from the tour though.

Hope they have a change of heart on the release of the dvd. It really doesn't have to perfect in my opinion and I'm not looking for Alison or Vince to do any dance moves. As long as the audio is good, which apparently it is because they are releasing the cd's, and the video quality is somewhat watchable. By watchable, I mean something that is decently clear that doesn't hurt your eyes or have any visual defects. I've watched some decently recorded shows from people in the crowds and consider even that watchable. [:)] I mean it's not like they're ever going to do this reunion tour again.
