Men Without Hats reissues

Men Without Hats reissues

Postby Rubellan » Mon Nov 15, 2010 9:50 pm

I'm surprise no one has mentioned the recent reissues of the early albums by MWH by Unidisc Canada. I haven't purchased them, but I would be curious to know if anyone has and what their opinion is. The bonus tracks on ROY do not contain the original Folk of the 80's ep tracks, so that's part of my hesitation in purchasing. I have yet to find if Folk 3 has any bonus material.

where have you found these available for purchase? CDUniverse has them out of stock and Amazon - last time I checked - does not even list them. Thanks!

Ok, Amazon lists them also, but not in stock.

Amazon.ca has some of them listed and Rhythm of Youth says "usually ships in 1 to 4 weeks".

They're from Canada and are available at Amazon's Canadian site. As of this writing, Folk seems to be on backorder (1-4 weeks) but ROY appears available.

I get thoroughly confused with Men Without Hats reissues. I keep thinking I've bought the cd already and then I look at the tracklistings and they always vary slightly. They've gotta stop using that yellow cover with the Men Without Hats logo. [:D]

Ok, questions for you guys.

1) Which one of the releases contains the "video version" of Safety Dance?

2) Does this new reissue contain the following tracks?

11 Antarctica 3:28
12 Modern Dancing 4:13
13 Utter Space 2:45
14 Security 4:01
15 The Safety Dance (Club Mix) 4:32

3) Which release contains these bonus tracks?

11. Antartica Listen
12. Ban The Game (Full Version)
13. I Got The Message (Long Version)
14. The Safety Dance (Video Version)
15. The Safety Dance (Club Mix)

I've seen it 'in stock' at amazon.ca a couple of times. PinkyBlue82 bought ROY and has it in his possession. He said it's a fold out digpack with no insert or booklet. He also said it has another 'extended' version of Safety Dance that is close to 6 minutes long. He said it doesn't sound like a modern remix, but more in common with the standard 4 1/2 minute dance mix.

Amazon.ca had 1 of these CD's in stock this morning and I added it to my basket, but when I saw the total cost was coming out to nearly $30, which included $10 shipping to the U.S. (???), I emptied my basket and went to work. I still have the Oglio 2 on 1, which will be sufficient for the moment. I don't know if this new one is remastered or suffers from any modern day remastering trappings.

both of these (i guess they are the most recent reissues) are now on american itunes- the "rhythm of youth" has the last 5 songs Sean is looking for, and the club mix of "safety dance" is 5:50. the video version is 2:46. no "folk of the 80's ep" songs here, save for "antarctica."

"folk of the 80's part 3" is also available on itunes, with the bonus track being "where do the boys go" extended, natch.

oh, and they are like $7.00 each- so if you are all crazy about sound quality, and don't want mp3's but DO want to hear some stuff long out of print, well, here you go. i forgot how good these two albums are-

Seriously, does it cost over $10 to send a single cd from Canada to the US?

No, but Amazon Canada has always been like that. I think I've only ordered from them one time.

what about that 2 in 1 deal from Oglio? Can't order it if you live in the States? What's up with that?

I believe that 2 in 1 deal has been out of print for quite awhile now. It was even hard to get when it was in print. You think living in North America, you can get a North American cd pretty easy. Think again. :)

I bought the 2in1 Oglio release back in 1997 I think it was and vaguely remember having to go to some Canadian website. I think it was just some mom and pop music retailer site. They charged a reasonable price which was about $20 I think. But it's one of my treasured possessions. Love those two albums!

A&B Sound (Vancouver + Western Canada) is where I got mine from, around five years ago. They had it in at least two locations. Sadly, this legendary chain closed down some years ago, due to mismanagement.

They did have a awebsite you could order from, so maybe that is where you got it.
