Umo Detic - question about vinyl mixes

Umo Detic - question about vinyl mixes

Postby discoginfo » Sat Jun 18, 2011 6:55 pm

I'm trying to identify the four different mixes/versions from their first single: http://www.discogs.com/Umo-Detic-Fahren ... ster/40445
It seems they released two Fahrenheit singles in Germany, same cover and cat # but with different mixes. As I don't have the vinyl, I can't clock and listen to them. It seems there are both English and German speaking versions, plus two mixes of each, but I'm not sure. Thanks.

I have this 12": http://www.discogs.com/Umo-Detic-Fahren ... ease/69107

The description seems correct. I don't have my player hooked up right now, but I can tell by looking that the track on the A-side (picture label) is longer than the B-side. I'll give it a listen soon.

All the best,

Thanks! Like I said, there are two seemingly identical German 12" singles, but with slightly different art work, and most importantly different mixes:

["Two different versions on release, but untitled."]

[" Fahrenheit / Fahrenheit (NRG Mix)"]

Hi. AFAIK, the original German release NEZ01 with two untitled mixes features the 5:20 version with English samples and the 5:00 version with German samples. The latter may be also known as 'NRG Remix' to make the difference but it's not an actual official name. In fact, that second Discogs entry you mention and any other quoting 'NRG Remix' should be amended as info there has to be entered 'as per release' and that is not mentioned anywhere on any release of the record. Don't always trust Discogs blindly, its like the Wikepedia :o)

Then you have the 3:40 Mebo edit from the Technopolis comp. (also on the US 12") and the 6:40 Ultimix from the US 12" (also on the Carpe Diem mcd).

And I believe there is a Razormaid remix also, but not on any proper Umo detic release.

Hope that helped.

Thanks! I now published a little discography:
http://www.discog.info/umo-detic.html

But there is still this somewhat confusing release
http://www.discogs.com/Bigod-20-Carpe-Diem/master/34253

Issued in USA only, not sure if it's the same guys as in Umo Detic
remixing their own song. /JW

Same guys. They went by a few different band names (Bigod 20, Pluuto & Umo Detic). After the success of 'The Bog', versions of 'Carpe Diem' were released under their Bigod 20 moniker in the United States.

And Analoge Mechanik is correct, there is a Razormaid version…

Seems like Andreas Tomalla & Markus Nikolai had yet another alias: 20
http://www.discogs.com/artist/20

The list will be even longer if we count the number of projects that Tomalla has been involved in:
http://www.discogs.com/artist/Andreas+Tomalla

I added several discographies for his projects on my site recently:
http://www.discog.info/

But where does it start and where does it end. I only know that I seem to have missed out on lots of German synth-techno from the mid 80s to early 90s. The Germans stuck to the synth when most other bands abandoned them, around 1983/84. /JW

Yeah, Bigod 20 used the 20 name to release an acid house remix of their track 'Body To Body.' To my understanding, it was their belief that DJs and acid house fans wouldn't give the remix a chance if they knew it was coming from an EBM band.

You're right - Andreas Tomalla & Markus Nikolai (a.k.a. Talla 2XLC & Jallokin) were very busy individuals during the late '80s/early '90s, but their most successful project was Bigod 20. Used to be a huge fan of both until success and modern dancefloor trends soured their output.
