so8os [so eighties] – Artist Edition Sandra

She doesn't really fit even the most general definition of "New Wave" though so that is why some here will be disappointed with this release. Europop never really made it to the UK, aside from one hit wonders such as "Brother Louie" by Modern Talking. I suppose Alphaville were one of the first though I would say their first album crossed over to New Wave. The stuff from Europe was a whole lot better than the SAW/PWL stuff the UK got in the mid to late 80's. The similarity between the two was most of this stuff was producer led with most of the work being done by studio musicians. In Germany you had people like Cretu (Hubert Kah,Sandra,Peter Schilling,Enigma), Tony Hendrik (Bad Boys Blue,Haddaway,London Beat) and Dieter Boheln (Modern Talking, CC Catch, Blue System). This was a move away from the era of the late 70s and early 80s when bands wrote and performed all their own material. I think the producer led stuff was inferior to what had came before. In the US things were better as you had House and Hip Hop, which at least sounded more original.

I actually thought the European scene was much less formulaic than what was going on in the US, which I found a little more predictable. The house music scene was brilliant, as was hip hop but dance music coming out of Europe may have been cheesier in many cases, but was more inclined to follow an original route.

It is nice to see rarities appear on the so80s series, hopefully more of such releases to come............

IS THAT THE TWELVE INCH MIX ? Out late 2010 www.robgrillo.co.uk

Of course the surprise is CD2. Many unpublished finally cd.
But I expect to see the quality of mastering before saying "it's good".
Very important for many buyers.
