Ultravox "Brilliant"

Postby Sean » Tue Jun 12, 2012 1:24 pm

The closest to the Vienna thru Lament era Ultravox that I've heard since Lament. The music is awesome, how Ultravox should sound. I agree with DJCraig's comment, "what happen to Midge Ure's voice". It's not bad or anything, just not the Midge that I've been use to hearing for years. I'm sure age has something to do with it but again, it's not a negative. The song "Brilliant" is definitely brilliant and is the best song on the album. There are a few other songs that are very good too that makes this album a worthwhile purchase.

Personally I think its title says it all. Of all the unnecessary, moneyboosted reunions, this is one of the most authentic and honest. I can't find a bad track on this. Certainly it has its highest points and the ones that needs some more listens. But from my point there are at least three outstanding singles: "Brilliant", "Hello" and "Satellite", with "Rise" going near (even if I like it to be remixed a little), and other more atmospheric numbers like the moving "Remembering" and the closing "Contact". Once absorbed you just can't pull it from your stereo. Guaranteed. Impeccably produced by the wizard Steve Lipson.
