VANGELIS - Chariots of Fire 2012

VANGELIS - Chariots of Fire 2012

Postby discoginfo » Mon Jul 23, 2012 8:06 pm

Be it "new wave" or not, but the original came out in 1981 during the height of new wave (and Vangelis did some new wave stuff around that time!) This soundtrack is entirely updated, with new music added as well.

Also there's a new Vangelis "Best Of", with the previously unreleased full length version of Bladerunner Theme (= full length movie version) PLUS a new song "Remembering".

Too bad no theme from "Cosmos," one of the most stirring pieces of music he's done (originally part of his Heaven And Hell opus). It's on his previously released Greatest Hits collection.

Yes that's very strange. Although there seems to be quite a bit of thought behind this compilation. Maybe they had licensing problems? /JW

I'm quite confused about this release. When I went searching for it, the only thing "new" coming out is a "Chariots of Fire" stage production soundtrack. Is this the new rlease? I can't find any other information concerning a new remaster of the classic album with bonus tracks.

It is not a remaster (there were already more than one of this 1981 soundtrack) but a new recording made by Vangelis for the play, with some songs from the old soundtrack and some new pieces as well (as far as I could tell listening to the previews). This is why I call it Chariots of Fire 2012. A bit like the "new" soundtrack he made for the Bladerunner 3-CD, same film, new music. /JW

That is a pretty solid compilation, containing my favourite song Pulstar. Much more detailed than the Odyssey compilation from a few years back

While on the topic of Blade Runner (the complete main titles were issued on this CD for the first time), in late Oct a Blu-Ray "Blade Runner - 30th Anniversary Ultimate Collector's Edition" will be released:

USA (23 Oct)

UK (29 Oct)

I just thought I Vangelis fans would want to know. I'm not sure exactly what the contents difference will be between this and the 25th Anniversary, but surely Blu-Ray will be better. And I also hope for a 30th Anniversary CD, with all the music, without overdubs!

I have both of these releases. Are you saying the version of "Chariots of Fire" on "The Collection" is different from what is on the original soundtrack album? It sounds the same to me. I do know the version of the song on the "Chariots of Fire-The Play" album is different. Actually, it's the original recording but with new synth sounds and percussion added.

Here I refer to one line: "Chariots of Fire is the original version from the movie soundtrack album, not the retouched version on the album for the stage production." I was unclear.

From this site:
http://elsew.com/data/latest.htm
(go to 21 July "The Collection"")
