OMD - English Electric

Postby Neil Kelly » Sat Apr 06, 2013 11:36 pm

Not sure yet if better than HOM which i played to death and love but f*** it's damn good playing a 320kbps download as i type but don't worry i will purchase officially! Love 'Kissing the machine', 'Helen of Troy' and 'Metroland' which i bought officially via I tunes (7 track). In fact i would've purchased already but Amazon have listed a signed version unpriced and waiting for confirmation type of thing so i am totally confused what to do. Will it become available? When? How much? Poor on OMD's behalf because as we all know only too well week 1 sales of utmost importance. I may forget to purchase or even be put off as time goes by and i play my download more and more (i won't BTW just saying that they could lose sales by this stupid move). They should sort it out they would've had their sale from me by now

"History Of Modern" was a damn fine album too but "English Electric" is just slightly better, not that much.
There's going to be a deluxe edition of the album with the accompanying bonus DVD that will feature studio interviews, track by track commentary and animated videos as well:

Am looking forward to it more than to standard 1CD edition! [:)]

Dont wait for the signed deluxe, it was up about a month ago but amazon cancelled mine a few days ago because they are getting limited stock, they wont have anymore. Annoying but they gave me the normal deluxe for 8 quid.

Listened to it only once so far and it's ok. It seems a very short album at 43 minutes.

Thanks for info blaaah. I will order right now. I have been playing the album to death in the car today. About 4 times right through. Love it. I'm not disagreeing with it being better or worse but i will wait a few months to decide on that, if i ever can! Regarding the DVD i knew about that, that is the one i was getting or the signed copy which was also the deluxe edition. I'm not excited about the DVD though at all i think i have a DVD with HOM but i've never even watched it. Doesn't really interest me but i always buy deluxe as they keep their value (not that i'm planning to sell particulally of course). Short at 43 mins, moni? Size isn't everything. I have albums which are 20 minutes long. Who cares. Surely it's the quality and the fact alone that we've waited such a relatively short time for a follow up to HOM (Kraftwerk make me wait decades between albums) is FAR more important. Would a rather wait another 10 years to have an album that clocks in at 70 minutes... NO

Received my cd yesterday and listened to it today. All I can say is awesome, awesome, awesome. This is the OMD that I love. They have definitely returned back to form. The album sounds like stuff from their first five albums and leaning most towards Dazzle Ships and Sugar Tax. This will definitely be on my playlist for the next few months. Andy sounds great too.

Wish Depeche would have released an album like this sounding like songs from their first 6-7 albums.

Didn't care for the DM cd at all. OMD's album was instantly recognizable (definitely Dazzle Ships era).

I can't agree more with Omar. The OMD album blew/blows me away from the first listen, the Depeche Mode was more 'Is this all they can, they can do so much better.' Is Depeche Mode afraid to be succesfull? (Check out the remixes they release officially)

As someone who loves both OMD and steam trains, the video for Metroland is perfect for me. Here's the link.

The album debuted at its #12 peak in the UK charts - better chart position than "Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark" (#27, 1980), "Crush" (#13, 1985), "The Pacific Age" (#15, 1986), "Liberator" (#14, 1993), "Universal" (#24, 1996) and "History Of Modern" (#28, 2010).
Well done, guys!

Although OMD is heavily influenced by Kraftwerk, I really think this is OMD being OMD and being the OMD most of us love.

Agreed Shaun. Album was about number 7 midweek so held well (unlike Adam Ant, unfortunately). Biggest album (chart-wise) since 1991! 22 years of course. So deserved. Gutted it couldn't make number 10 though
