The Sound Box Set - 14 April 2014

The Sound Box Set - 14 April 2014

Postby roc51 » Tue Mar 11, 2014 3:46 pm

This is LONG overdue! The definitive editions of The Sound's first 3 LPs + BBC In Concert compiled in one comprehensive box.

Here's hoping Edsel reissues the remaining LPs in Box Set 2 later down the road.

The Sound Box Set 4-CD reissue

There's some exciting news to share!

THE SOUND - JEOPARDY + FROM THE LION’S MOUTH + ALL FALL DOWN + BBC LIVE IN CONCERT

• This comprehensive 4CD box set presents the perfect opportunity to reappraise the career of The Sound – the frequently overlooked London quartet who could perhaps should have had an impact on the post-punk era on the level achieved by the likes of Joy Division, Echo & The Bunnymen or The Cure.

• Across four CDs in wallets in a clamshell box are “Jeopardy”, “From The Lion’s Mouth” and “All Fall Down”, the three legend-enshrining LPs they recorded for Korova and WEA between 1980 and 1982. The albums are supplemented with rarities, b-sides, the recordings with Kevin Hewick, and BBC radio sessions. The fourth CD contains the BBC live in concert recordings.

• Put together with input from band members Mike Dudley and Graham Bailey as well as Adrian Borland’s father Bob, the box also contains a 36 page booklet with annotation by Tim Peacock of Record Collector, as well as the lyrics and ephemera.

I want to know if masters were sourced. I do know the previous re-issues of Jeopardy and All Fall Down were mastered from vinyl, despite claims that All Fall Down was from tapes. It was not. I never owned the Lions Mouth CD so I cannot comment on the sources.

I will credit Edsel with honesty here:

Edsel wrote: "Hi Scott, I have just received a response to your query from the guys who mastered the forthcoming releases - "No original tapes were used as no-oone knows where the masters are". We have listened to the new versions of both albums and, in our opinion, they both sound better than they did originally. We hope that answers your question. Thanks"

I believe the band also said this when the Renascent reissues were first issued...this was especially the case for Jeopardy as they had to master this from vinyl.

Anyways, two box sets ordered = one happy fan!
