Punkumentary - "American Hardcore"

Postby geoffolehane » Mon Nov 27, 2006 3:28 am

This article was published in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette about some recently unearthed early 80's film footage, which is to be made into a documentary about the punk era.

It is an interesting article and here is the link - http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/06327/740530-120.stm

Featured in the documentary will be Black Flag, the Circle Jerks, Bad Brains, Minor Threat, MDC, and SS Decontrol.

I cannot wait to see this film. I have the book and must have read it 10 times. Being 40 now, it will be a great sentimental flashback for me.

????????? This film came and went already, at least here in New York. I missed it during it's short stint in the local theatres but I bet you can find it now on DVD.

I do want to see it, I've lived thru this scene (went thru my hardcore stage too) but I heard not so great things about the film. Who wants to spend $10 in the theatre these days - no one does.

I got a screener of the movie from a friend. Its good for the person who doesn't really know anything about the scene, but as a veteran I was really disappointed. According to the movie all HC came from either NYC or DC. Husker Du got mentioned 3 times and there was a 1-sentence interview with Tommy Stinson of The Replacements. Other than that Mpls wasn't represented at all, Wisconsin and Chicago barely got any coverage.

Still, an ambitious project and worth seeing if you like Minor Threat or Bad Brains.
