12"/80s...?

Bought this today and gave some of the tracks a listen while cooking. The ones I listened to were fine although not as sharp as some CDs I have heard. It is a shame that some of the tracks come from vinyl but as each disc costs about £4.00 and for the amount of stuff on them I feel it's reasonable.
Having these easily available on CD does save a lot of rummaging in the loft to find the originals and the time recording and then editing, or searching the net for posts of the tracks.
I must admit that whilst writing this the idea of copying the actual vinyl, holding and looking and the 12" sleeve feels me with a bit of nostalgia but these days I don't have the time to do this (much).
The one thing that does worry me is the timing differences (AFOS), has anyone noticed any more timing changes or edits. They did this to 'Love on Your Side' on a previous volume which was about 2 mins shorter than my 12" so I shouldn't be suprised.

The vast majority of this compilation has been released on CD before. I know for a fact everything on disc one has and most of disc three. Disc two I'm only familiar with the New Order track and it's been released on CD as for the rest of that disc i don't care cause it's rubbish. So basically there is NO way they should be using vinyl rips.

> You know what's funny, I have found that if I listen to a CD through itunes on my computer, I will very often hear little pops and clicks that SOUND like CDs that were mastered from vinyl, but when I play them through my regular stereo, none of those faults exist. I don't know if it's just my computer or what, but I'm convinced that itunes does not properly read CDs during playback and actually is causing digital glitches.

If you don't have the "special" CD cable from your drive to the soundcard, then you're basically ripping the CD when listening to it. iTunes isn't the most accurate ripper, and should be avoided for ripping, seeing as there are better options out there (EAC for Windows or XLD for Macs; both are freeware). However, that doesn't explain why the MP3s have that problem, unless the glitches were from the original rip.

> I know for sure that if I use any other applications on my computer while listening to itunes, both CDs and MP3s skip.

Time to try a less bloated player, and see what happens :-).

I do wish that it would specifically say on the back cover which tracks were mastered from vinyl, though (ie. full disclosure). It would avoid complaints and disappointment.

I suggested to these cats last year sometime, to release a "12"80s Goth/Darkwave" 3 cd set like they have for others in the past? Suggested they used alot of rare/oop/hard to find early goth stuff, and I never received a response.

There's quite a bit of stuff they can use, that would make a set like that, well worth the price IMO. There were so many good goth/darkwave groups back in the late 70's, all the way till around 1990(ish), they could use.

What do you guys think of this? Do you think it would sell? I do. Make the cover all black, and eerie?

Yes - I agree.

There was a compilation years ago called "Dark Side of the 80s".

A compilation with more Indie than Dark stuff would be welcome.

Material from the Cure, Smiths, Midnight oil, Echo & the bonnymen etc would be great.

Just noticed Talk Talks 'Such A Shame' 12" fades out and doesn't stop dead as my previous versions have. Edited?? Such a shame!
