I don't know when the MP3s were made available, but unless it's long ago I suspect he will use the same "masters" for the CD. To release MP3s nowdays from vinyl is popular, partly because it's cheap, partly because it's easy and partly because there is basically no economical risk involved. If it is done because the master tapes no longer exist and they use an unplayed record and put time and love into restoring the sound digitally, and clearly inform customers about this, then I feel it's OK. If not, not OK.

wow. if these are vinyl rip CDs that would be such a HUGE letdown after all these years of waiting for CDs. If they aren't cleaned up so they sound somewhat better than my own burns of my vinyl to CD, I'll be hugely disappointed. Did itunes have 12" mixes and such, or does it look like these will be straight up CDs with just the original albums on them?

The music industry is a disgrace, constantly crying about music thievery--purchasable music these days is virtually FREE for them to 'produce'. Here, throw a file onto the server, and let everyone pay to download the same piece of digital information. Oh, and don't worry about remastering anything--just find some old records in garage sales and attics and we'll slap those up there.

[/quote] The iTunes versions don't have any remixes. On Zaine's website there's a link to higher quality mp3s available. Here's the link : www.amplifier.co.nz

The thing about "bitrate" is relative. A track mastered from excellent source will sound better, the better (higher) the bitrate is. For example 320 would be better than 228. However, a track mastered from vinyl is pretty silly to sell at very high birtate, unless the sound is fantastic. Who wants to hear crackles in excellent sound quality?? /JW
