The Unknown Beauty Of The 80’s Volume 165

This volume is a thematic cover compilation again. Up for one week.

Gazebo - Dancing With The Moonlit Knight (1990)

Dancing With The Moonlit Knight is the opening track of the album Selling England By The Pound of Genesis, original released in 1973. Gazebo covered the opening part of the track in 1990.

System 56 - Shapes Of Things (1984)

System 56 was a band from Cleveland, Ohio. Shapes Of Things, a cover of the Yardbirds, original released in 1977, was in 1984 the b-side of the single A Man Needs A Motor.

Echo & The Bunnymen - All You Need Is Love (1988)

Original released by The Beatles in 1967, Echo & The Bunnymen covered the song on the 12” Seven Seas “Life At Brian’s – Lean And Hungry” in 1984 also including lines from Like A Rolling Stone of Bob Dylan.

Vapore 36 - I Know What I Like (1987)

Original released on the Genesis album Selling England By The Pound in 1973, it became a single in 1974. The Italian New Wave band Vapore 36, active from 1984 ‘till 1990, released their version in their one and only 12” Foe in 1987.

Mo-Dettes - Paint I Black (1980)

Paint it Black became a hit by the Rolling Stones in 1966. This version of the female Punk/New Wave band Mo-Dettes became their third single in 1980.

Alice - The Fool On The Hill (1987)

The Fool On The Hill is a song by The Beatles, released in 1967 on the album Magical Mystery Tour. The Italian vocalist Alice released her version as a single in 1987.

A Primary Industry - Heart Of Glass (1987)

Original released by Blondie in 1978, A Primary Industry released it as their third and final single in 1987. The band changed their name soon after to Ultramarine, title of their only album, debuted in 1990 with the album Folk and is still active.

Wendy Wu - For Your Love (1982)

Wendy Wu, also known as Wendy Yates and Wendy Cruise, was the front woman of The Photos who debuted in 1982 with the Los Huracanes cover For Your Love , written by Graham Gouldman. She released three solo singles in the period 1982-1983 and then became vocalist of the Steve Strange short-lived band Strange Cruise.

The Caravan - Somewhere In Arabia

The Caravan was a Belgium New Beat project, which released four singles in the second half of the 80’s. The original of Some-Times (in Arabia) was by Dutch band Flue, a track from their 1983 album Vista, then simple titled Some-Times. Flue released a new version of the song as a single a year after The Caravan version.

Siouxsie & The Banshees - The Passenger (edit)

The Passenger is a track written by Iggy Pop and released on his 1977 album Lust For Life. Siouxsie & The Banshees released it as a single ten years later.

Dazibao - Four Hours

Dazibao was a French New Wave band formed in 1983 and disbanded in 1992. The Clock DVA cover Four Hours, from their 1981 album Thirst, although already performed live in 1980, was a contribution to the French compilation Out Of Nowhere from 1985.

The Igloos – Octopus

B-side of their only 1980 single Wolf. Octopus was a cover of the 1969 single of ex Pink Floyd member Syd Barrett.

Midge Ure - Living In The Past

Living In The Past is a track of Midge Ure’s debut album The Gift from 1985. The song was original written and released by Jethro Tull in 1972 on the album with the same title.

Kiss That - I Can't Stand The Rain

Kiss That was a short lived New Wave band, which released an album and a accompanied single in 1986.
I Can’t Stand The Rain was original composed and written by Ann Peebles, Bernard Miller and Donald Bryant and released in 1973 by Ann Peebles.

Couleur Trois - Dreams Of Leaving (extended airplay version)

Couleur Trois only 12”, released in 1986 is a cover of The Human League track from their 1980 Travelogue album. An edit of The Human Leaugue version was unofficially released in 2019, with Dance Like A Star as b-side.

Stephan Eicher - Sweet Jane

Swiss singer and songwriter Stephan Eicher released this Lou Reed written cover in 1980 as one of the tracks from his 7”/12” vinyl Spielt Noisy Boys. The original comes from The Velvet Underground 1970 album Loaded.

Micro Kids - People Are People

This Swiss New Wave/Alternative Rock group from Berne was active from 1987 ‘till 1991. People Are People is a track from their self-titled album from 1989 and is a cover of the big worldwide Depeche Mode hit song from the 1984 album Some Great Reward.

Camouflage - On Islands

Methods Of Silence was in 1989 the second album of the German synthpop group Camouflage. On Islands is a track written by Tony Mansfield of the band New Musik and was released on the album From A To B in 1980.

The Residents - Jailhouse Rock

The US Avantgarde group, based in San Francisco, in 1983 released the compilation album Residue Of The Residents which contains the Elvis Presley cover Jailhouse Rock, originated from 1957.

Visage - In The 2525

The original version was written by Rick Evans and released in 1968 by Zager & Evans. Visage (Midge Ure, Rusty Egan, and Steve Strange) recorded the track as a demo in 1978, which yielded their first single Tar in 1979. By then Billy Currie, had joined the band together with three members of the band Magazine (Barry Adamson, John McGeoch and Dave Formula). The track was released in 1983 on the Fade To Grey (the singles collection) compilation album.
