NEW YORK, NY (August 15, 2006): The Long Island Maritime Museum and What’s Good Live is pleased to announce the completion of their all-star musical lineup, promising to make this year’s Re/Max Long Island Maritime Museum Benefit Festival the best yet!
On Saturday, August 26th, they welcome Ashley Parker Angel to the stage for a special acoustic performance. This O-Town graduate and MTV heart-throb is currently burning up the charts with his hit single, “Let U Go,” and the fan boards are already abuzz about this very special performance. On Sunday, August 27th, Jill Gioia returns to Long Island for a triumphant homecoming performance and her first since being voted off of the CBS smash hit Rockstar: Supernova. This Long Island native is no stranger to the stage – or the radio – and many will remember her song, “He’s My Bitch,” which won her the Steve Madden rock star competition a few years back. Rounding out the headliners are the Gin Blossoms, who will be performing live on Sunday, August 27th. The Gin Blossoms boast ten (10) Hot 100 and Number One Singles, including “Hey Jealousy,” “Found Out About You,” and “Til I Hear It From You,” which was featured on the Empire Records soundtrack. The Gin Blossoms’ new album, Major Lodge Victory – their first since 1997 – was released on August 8, 2006, and has already received a coveted positive review in Rolling Stone, People, Entertainment Weekly, and USA Today.
This year’s impressive musical lineup is rounded out by Long Island natives Zebra (rock legends best known for their song “Who’s Behind the Door,” they were recently inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame), Shannon McNally (the soulful singer and Long Island native whose hit song, “Now that I Know,” received extensive radio play and was featured on the Sweet Home Alabama soundtrack), Nine Days, The Invisible (heard extensively on Island 94.3), The Kung Fu Girls, ZO2 (who have toured extensively with KISS and Poison), Dana Rayne, Kryste Kaye, Lucas Prata (as heard on the Deuce Bigalow soundtrack, and extensively on WBLI), Blotto (MTV pioneers famous for such fun-in-the-sun songs as “I Wanna Be a Lifeguard”), Seven Turns (the 9-pcs. Allman Brothers tribute band), and Rocket Man (the premiere Elton John tribute band).
On the second stage, festival-goers can enjoy seafaring music from Long Island staples Strike the Bell, and Pennsylvania’s own Inishowen, on both festival days! For the children (and the children at heart), this year’s second stage will also feature Ye Pyrate Brotherhood, a hardy crew of 17th century buccaneers with a sharp theatrical edge, reliving the days of high seas adventure on the Spanish Main, enacting a scallywag pirate show and treasure hunt that is sure to fun for the whole family! If you liked Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, you’ll love Ye Pyrate Brotherhood! Finally, festival-goers can enjoy the thrill of a tethered hot air balloon ride! Located at the nearby West Sayville Boat Basin, for a nominal fee (proceeds to benefit the Museum), patrons can enjoy the thrill of a sunset tethered hot air balloon with up to four members of their closest friends and family!
This annual two-day Long Island tradition will be taking place on the LI Maritime Museum grounds, located at 86 West Avenue in West Sayville, Long Island, New York. All proceeds will fund the Museum, which is dedicated to the preservation of Long Island’s rich maritime history and heritage for educational purposes. This year, the festival will take place on Saturday, August 26, 2006, and Sunday, August 27, 2006. The gates will open at 10:00AM and close at 6:00PM. The music will continue until 7:00PM on both days. Aside from the impressive musical lineup, the festival features its indoor and outdoor museum exhibits, as well as over 150 vendors of fine nautical arts and crafts and educational groups, and – of course – huge pavilions purveying some of the finest and freshest seafood available.
Tickets are $5, and the proceeds will benefit the operations of the museum. Children ages five (5) and under are free (pets are not allowed).
