Dragonette-Mercury Lounge, NYC-May 14, 2007

Just back from tonight's performance..a winner!!

Even though it seems like the Mercury Lounge has existed forever. I've never been there before tonight. It's tiny; the space is maybe twice the size of my bedroom (or 1/3 to 1/2 the size of the room at Maxwell's).

And a small turn out, maybe 50 people, tops.

Shortly after 9PM Tina and the boys came out and performed about 7 or 8 songs in a 30 minute set. They led off with "Jesus Doesn't Love me Anymore" from their ep, then introduced a new song "Marvellous"(?), then went into personal fave (from the ep) "I Get Around" (NOT the Beach Boys), back to some new songs, "Competition" from the ep, and more new songs.

At various points the music reminded me of Elastica, Elvis Costello, Kate Bush, and Gwen Stefani! But always very tight (Tina, vocalist, 2 guitars, drums and pre-recorded keyboards/synth).

Dragonette Dan told the crowd that the new album, "Galore" will be available in July. Tomorrow's invite-only performance looks like a tough ticket, and that Perez Hilton asked Dragonette to play at a benefit for the Museum of Sex ("that's Perez Hilton, not Paris Hilton; she's in jail"[:D])

Then back home for me, by 11PM on a week night.
