Wall of Voodoo

Stan Ridgway's "tribute" to Wall of Voodoo is rolling through Atlanta next month. Since he's the only original member, I'm not expecting much, but I gotta take what I can get. Anyone seen them on this tour? How was it?

Wowsers. The show last night was truly incredible. The Triple Door venue in Seattle is extremely nice and makes for a really good site for some good ol' fashioned musical entertainment. And Stanard and Co. definitely brought the goods! Here's the setlist for posterity:

Firstly, the sound was fantastic and there didn't seem to be a single muck-up the entire night. No stopping and starting again, no hiccups from any of the musicians, nothin' but top-form from all involved. Joe Berardi's drumming was absolutely stellar and he captured much of what Joe Nanini brought to the table in the early WOV song renditions. He also kept the crowd (well, at least me and my friend) entertained with his Forbidden Planet intergalactic synth drum blips and blurts. Both Rick King and the lovely Pietra did fantastic work as well. And Stan was on the ball and his voice seemed to get better as the night went on. He couldn't hit some of the high notes early, but that changed as his vocals got some more exercise as the night wore on.
Many of the songs sounded so much better than I have ever heard them before and the highlight for me were The Passenger (which sounded EPIC), Lonely Town (which just seemed to have a special kind of atmosphere about it with this performance), Mexican Radio (Stan seemed really energetic and hyper during this one in particular), Ring of Fire (which almost literally blew my mind during the last portion solos; GREAT), Callbox 1-2-3 (Stan had a nervous breakdown at the end and kept screaming even after the music had finished, which delighted the hell out of me), Drive, She Said (which sounded VERY well fleshed out and every bit as good if not better than the album version) and he finished things off with the beautiful A Mission In Life. *SIGH*

What a killer set. Thanks for the great report. You know, I really kinda ignored this tour, thinking it might be a pale immitation of the WOV I knew and loved. It sure doesn't seem that way by the reports. Congrats to everyone's who's catching these. Very jealous now.
