Spazmatics in Austin

Postby Frau_Blucher » Tue Aug 22, 2006 10:23 pm

I know I saw at least a couple of Austin locals on the board. Does anyone do the weekly Spazmatics wednesday shows at Cedar Street?

I had put the nerdy 80s cover band on my calendar for when I'm down here all this week - good for shits and giggles if nothing else I figured. The company I work for had bought a small company down here, and I couldn't be more happy about it. When I came down this week, I was tickled to hear there's a bunch of new wave fans here...and their nights out with the Spazmatics is a popular ritual! Cool!!

If there's any Austin locals who are going to be around, drop me an email. I'll be there tonight buying drinks! It'll be the excellent garage sounds of the Randies and Girls in a Coma tomorrow...

Yeah, Austin rocks. Plenty of great music to be found in that town. And the food? FN excellent.

I've decided I love Texas. Sure the Spazmatics were great, playing 3 sets of raucous if corny new wave to a packed audience on a Wednesday night. Yeah, my new colleagues down in Austin are a fantastically fun bunch. And picking amongst 50 clubs on almost any night, including the four bands we saw the next night, is an insanely cool luxury.

But more than anything Texas, OMG your women are SMOKIN'!!!

I saw The Spazmatics last year playing up at Universal City Walk when Blade hosted the Friday Night 80's deal.

Went up there again earlier this Summer to check 'em out again but Blade said they had already commited to playing Vegas and couldn't play City Walk on Friday nights.

Musically they were actually pretty solid. Their get-ups were silly but understandable. Their on-stage "shtick" though was pretty lame.

But I did get a drumstick that night so it made up for the bad comedy! [:D]

At any rate... I give them two pocket-protectors up. Go see 'em if you get the chance!
