British Sea Power in Montreal Nov. 14

Well that was a shitkickingly long drive on the morning after the Plimsouls Hoboken gig. But it was my duty! This concert was quite a treat - a solitary North American showcase as they arrived to record their next album with master Canadian producer <a href="http://www.eqmag.com/story.asp?sectioncode=36&storycode=8793">Howard Bilerman</a>. La Sala Rosa is quite the intimate venue - about 200 cap tops, providing an up close and personal of all the wonder and chaos that ensued. I can't recommend a BSP concert enough to the uninitiated - intense vocals, towering guitars, and unparalleled songwriting. Any fans of Echo & the Bunnymen, The Chameleons or the like shouldn't be missing them imho.

For those interested (I know there's a few of you here!), this was a very non-standard set list to be sure. Something like Cool New Song 1 / Carrion / Remember Me / Cool New Song 2 / Cool New Song 3 / A Wooden Horse / Spirit of St Louis / Fear of Drowning / Cool New Song 4 / Leaving Here / Please Stand Up / 10 minutes of Lately / 20 minutes of Rock In A with much chaos. Some documentation of the grand day out north of the border...

Should I be offended? The lads seemed a bit bemused or even frightened at my approach...
<img src="http://www.pbase.com/myirwin/image/70284599.jpg">

...yet they looked vastly relieved and even quite jolly at my "traveling companion's". I protest!
<img src="http://www.pbase.com/myirwin/image/70285052.jpg">

It was interesting to see Hamilton opening for the first time rather than Yan...
<img src="http://www.pbase.com/myirwin/image/70285172.jpg">

And Yan striking a pose was fine. Hearing that all videos for the next album will feature extensive voguing was not...
<img src="http://www.pbase.com/myirwin/image/70285328.jpg">

More disturbing still was Yan's continued shrinkage. He's not a large man to begin with but that's a standard size tambourine!
<img src="http://www.pbase.com/myirwin/image/70285444.jpg">

Noble looked quite terrified staring eye-level at a BSP member...
<img src="http://www.pbase.com/myirwin/image/70285504.jpg">

Woody's blind drumming was impressive. They had adorned the stage with British nautical distress signals...
<img src="http://www.pbase.com/myirwin/image/70285532.jpg">

The grand finale - Noble pantsing himself and modeling Canadian underwear...

Great pics! Why are you guys blurry? (blirry?)

I still haven't gotten over my disappointment in not being able to go with you guys. I should have just said fuck it and quit my job and gone. Damn slave drivers! [B)]

So what other fun things did you do while you were up there? [;)]

Oh, nothing. Nothing at all. But did I mention Canada has an amazing assortment of full-contact sports? I'll get you abreast on details seperately. It was also nice returning home with some nice Cohibas and a case of Molson Bradors. Yum.

Those are the pics I want to see! Feel free to blir the NWO member's faces (and more) on them though, but not the friendly Canadians you may have met.

Is it just me or does it look like Hamilton is asking Blir for a specimen sample in the 1st pic and then showing us how much he enjoyed it in the 2nd.[:0]
