I was going through some old boxes and I found some old concert ticket stubs from shows I'd seen.
This one was special.
The date on the ticket is May 30, 1981 at Bond's International Casino in NYC.
The Clash were forced by their contract with Epic Records to tour in support of Sandinista, even though they didn't want to tour at all.
So they scheduled two weeks of shows in NYC and two in LA. That was the whole tour.
I lived in Boston at the time and drove down to see them. My girlfriend and I got there in time to find out the promoters had oversold the show and the fire marshalls had been turning away ticket holders.
Class act that the Clash were, they agreed to do enough extra shows to honor all the extra tickets sold. So we came back two weeks later and caught them in their prime.
Pearl Harbor and the Explosions opened for them.
The ticket cost $10.00
Good times, good memories.

Hey Rokkr,if you lived in Boston at the time did you happen to go
to see them in 82 at the cape cod coleseum? They played on friday night and Elvis Costello played on Sunday. We spent at least one night sleeping on Dennis beach between the two shows since the cape was booked solid. The Cape cod coleseum had the worst acoustics of
any venue I've been been to,which kind of took a good amount of enjoyment out of the show.
Any one else go to these shows?

Nope. I saw them two other times, once in 1979 I believe in Worcester with the Undertones and Bo Diddley and again in 1984 I think at the Orpheum in Boston. So three times all told.

Had some great times at the Cape Cod Coleseum. I can remember the parking lot before the shows was like a big party. Beer and pot all around and every car had music blasting out with the sounds of whatever band would be playing later. Good times.
I did see the Clash way back in 1979 at the Harvard Square Theatre . Man , talk about a great show.

I'm an old guy and my brain is mush. Now that you mention the Harvard Square Theater, I think that's where I saw them too. I was managing the Strawberries in Worcester at the time, so I think I mixed the two places.
The one show I DO remember well at the Harvard Square Theater was Gary Numan and the Psych Furs.
Gary put me to sleep and the Furs woke me up.
And thanks Coop, I lurk but don't post much. Finding that stub just gave me the urge.

Rokkr , if it helps to unmush your brain [:)] the date on my ticket stub was for the show on February 16, 1979 . I was very young at the time but besides the great and very loud music I remember all the punk rockers there to see the show. I remember thinking , this is so cool. Spiked mohawks and leather jackets every where you looked.I also remember a few fights breaking out but for the most part it was about the raw energy of their music that that made it a night not to forget.

Here's some specifics about that 79' show
http://homepage.mac.com/blackmarketclash/
You're right Tom D.,the cape cod coleseum had a great tailgaitng atmosphere before each show, I think I also saw Tom Petty ,Van Halen and The Tubes there at different times. I believe the place was mainly used for the WWF.

Thanks tileboy. It was great to read about the show and see the playlist from that night.
