Yep. The dB's are playing again, this time in New York City and Chapel Hill. The opening act in NYC will be old pal Mitch Easter, with a very special one-time-only reunion of Sneakers — featuring Chris Stamey, Mitch Easter, Will Rigby, and Robert Keely — to celebrate the release of Nonsequitur of Silence. It'll be like 1982 all over again, except when Sneakers play it'll be like 1976.

These shows feature the "classic" lineup of The dB's that recorded STANDS FOR dECIBELS and REPERCUSSION:

Will Rigby
Gene Holder

It's only January 14th, but this might have been the concert of the year for me. It was close to, if not totally soldout. The Bowery Ballroom is one of my favorite venues; good sound, relatively small space (maybe 1/4 the size of Irving Plaza).

The opening acts, The Sneakers and Mitch Easter (Lets Active) were pretty disappointing for me. I had never heard The Sneakers before (a pre DBs/Lets Active conglomerate), but was unimpressed last night. Similarly, although I am quite familiar with Lets Active, they only played one song I knew (Every Word Means No), with the other songs not making much of an impact on me.

After waiting more than 2 hours for the DBs (and I got there "late") they charged onto the stage and opened with 4 outstanding songs in a row! A blistering "Black and White", "Dynamite", "Big Brown Eyes"!!! and "Cycles Per Second", all standout tracks from their debut album "Stands For Decibels". They toned it down a bit with their fifth song, and then went into hyperdrive with "Ask For Jill" from their second album "Repercussion". I'm thinking to myself "what the hell are they going to do for an encore?"

There was very little chit-chat between the songs, so they moved right along, playing 18 songs. The first encore consisted of a cover "Let's Work Together" followed by "Amplifier" from "Repercussion". They came back for a second encore, playing 2 more songs before saying a final goodbye.

Peter Holsapple's final words were "Thank you, it's great to be back in NYC, where you will be seeing a lot more of us" and "we don't know any more songs to play".

All in all, well worth the 20+ year wait!! Their first 2 albums were re-issued a number of years ago on a single cd by Collectors' Choice, along with a couple of bonus b-sides. Highly recommended! And watch for a forthcoming new album and the DBs in concert!
