Tim Tebow - What if he was a black man?

Postby WoodlandParkPunk » Thu Jan 05, 2012 1:34 am

If he was a black athelete would the media make fun of him like they do now? Is it easier to ridicule his convictions because he was raised in a middle class white family and walks the walk? If he was black would they put a spin on it like, he was raised by a strong mother who instilled these values in him at an early age. Just food for though.Hmmm.....

interesting question. Despite hating the Broncos and being completely indifferent about Tebow I have found myself rooting mightily for them to win. I could care less about his religious convictions but I haven't seen a player so despised by so many including his own organization and I just love the fact he continued to win. He faltered down the stretch as to be expected but I strangely hope he goes out and wins a playoff game, the more the merrier. He's a rookie. He's not very good. He has played on one dimensional team and I really feel the coaching changed their approach and need to take their share of blame for the recent skid.
Can he get better? maybe. So many young QB's struggle.

If he was black, he wouldn't have even been given this opportunity with that crappy arm of his.

I understand the criticism that his displays of religious humility only bring attention to himself but....

...I love it when all the football analysts and prognosticators are proven wrong like they were for that stretch of 5 weeks. It makes for good TV when they're pulling their hair out trying to explain the Broncos winning streak. I also like to imagine guys in Vegas losing fortunes when they bet against the Broncos thinking it was sure thing. Personally, I find that hilarious. There's no way to predict the NFL. There are too many intangibles. Trying to do so is like pissing into the win. The more analysts that lose credibility the better.

As for pointing to the heavens and thanking God for a victory...huh? Didn't anybody watch football in the 60's and 70's? Players did that all the time and nobody gave a crap. Heck, Tom Landry's Cowboys were the poster children for that sort of thing.

Deep down, we all know what would happen if he was black. The media would be kissing his ass every step of the way. We saw it on a much smaller scale with Tony "why didn't your god help your son?" Dungy. The hero worship would be absolutely sickening.

With that out of the way ... Tim Tebow is awesome. Maybe I'm just not hardcore enough in my religion hating, but damn ... how anyone can dislike this kid baffles me.

I miss the good ol' days when we only pointed and laughed at the coloreds.

Tim seems like a good guy. He isn't even annoying. The "tolerant" liberals just like to bash anyone of faith. (See post above.) Unless of course you're a person of faith from one of their "chosen" minority groups - and then they not only don't bash; they think you deserve preferential government treatment.

<p align="justify">What the hell are you talkin' about? Christains and [rich] white people have always gotten preferential treatment, as opposed to these "minority groups" you refer to. Fuck, the God damn Bible itself gives rules and guidelines as to how to treat a slave, which white people used to oppress others for hundreds of years. Furthermore, there were "minority groups" who were forced to convert under threat of death. Adding insult to injury, the Christians built victory churches above the graves of the people they conquered. So, Christianity and their God can go fuck themselves over.

Amen[}:)]

Well, I certainly hope Tim Tebow is aware of the Emancipation Proclamation of 1863 then.

Agreed. The ACPC (American Christan Persecution Complex) that get trotted out so often--especially this time of year by GOP candidates (see D-Bag Gingrich, Frothy Mixture Santorum, Bush-light Perry, et al) is not only wearisome but comletely out of tune with reality. Its hard to complain of a being persecuted in a country where the overwhelming majority (80+% in national surveys) of people polled identify with the religion in question, enjoy on the whole implicit acceptance of their beliefs in most social or public situations, can largely wear icons or clothing identifying their religion without ridicule and have had imput into much of the legislation in this country. Persecuted? Try telling that to a Wiccan, Muslem, or Atheist in the country--you might get some eye-opening stories of real persecution.

As to Tebow, I lived in Denver for several years in the 80s and remember Elway pulling out victories by the seat of pants on numerous occasions. It seems Tebow has done the same for which he is to be commended. If he wants to publically thank God or his religion for those victories, that's entirely up to him. As ghosty points out--I seem to remember that happening a lot in the 70s and 80s. I'm sure its irritating to some but that's free speech. However, I do seem to remember a bible verse of something to the effect:

"And whenever you pray, do not be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, so that they may be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward. But whenever you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you" Matthew 6:5-6

just sayin is all

And Tim Tebow throws an 80 yard touchdown pass in overtime to knock the mighty Steelers out of the playoffs. I can't NOT root for this guy!

If he can do the same thing against the evil Patriots next week I may sculpt a statue in his honor and put in on the front lawn.

Why oh why, am I stuck with Mark Sanchez as my QB?
