It was great to meet up again with Retro_NRG and Cee. And I got to say hello to BigBri. As for the show, it was really, really good even though they did only play for an hour! It took people a while to realized they were really done playing. They could have easily stayed on for another hour. And they didn't play my favorite song "One Day". But it was still awesome to hear that bass again. Their new songs sound as good as the old ones. I am looking forward to hearing the new cd. [:D]

I gotta think that a Retro_NG is a very different thing than a Retro_NRG, which inturn may or may not be a different thing than a klgawx. [:D]

Good to hear you had a good time. Always very cool seeing an old fav. I hope that's not too much disappointment seeping through your comments. I'll admit to not paying particular attention to APB - seems like a big LI thang - but these threads got me to relisten to the Something to Believe In album in its entirety. I'm really liking Summer Love the most, maybe hearing the most Gang of Four in it. Definitely some nice guitar work that I hadn't particularly noted before. That usually makes for a good concert too. Thanks for the review and the reminder about a good band.

Yes it is Retro_NRG. Blir always catches my screw ups [:p]

And Summer Love was one of the songs that was not played last night. The guy next to me kept complaining about the band not singing it. Oh well. Maybe next time.

APB put on a good show. Their set was short, running a little over an hour, and it was a late start. I thought the vocals levels were a bit low, but APB's sound is bass-driven, and there was plenty of that. I was happy just to finally see them live.

As for "omitted" songs: I wonder if APB just was less interested in stripping down the sound of some of their material, instead sticking with songs that were written straight up for a three piece band. For example, "Summer Love" was written for two guitars, "Something to Believe In" has keys...

It was nice to finally meet a few of the people I've chatted with here. Cee is really cool, and we talked a while. Said hello to Retro_NRG, Marie, and I think that was Reillygirl with her... but they all disappeared into the machine-induced fog shortly after.

Overall, it was a good time. Even my wife got into it, bouncing along with the beat. And this is a band she never heard of until yesterday morning, when she willed herself to listen to the Something to Believe In reissue while on the road. Even this morning she noted that she still had the refrain from "What Kind of Girl" running through her head. Although it was more of a complaint. So that's not necessarily a good thing.

Thanks to Ebb we were forewarned of the late start and early finish.

They sounded good, not too loud. Hopefully, they’ll come back again and not in another 15 years.

It was nice to see/meet some fellow NWO-ers. Brian, tell your wife there are witnesses to her “bouncing along with the beat.” Keep an eye on the mail, she might start running the LI APB Fan Club now.

Yeah, One Day and Summer Love were the two I was sort of disappointed not to have heard. Not sure if you're saying they didn't do Something To Believe In? We did get that one at Knitting Factory. Was a highlight, actually.

Anyway, sounds like a fun time was had by all. What was the capacity at Molly Bloom's? Forgot how tiny KF was. Think there were a few hundred at most.

First off, greetings in return to all the LI NWO'rs whom I met up with at Saturday nights MB II's show.

While it was great welcoming APB back here last night after so many years, the overall sound quality could have been better.

Being a tad muddy and overmodulated with enough mike feedback to convince me that a Hendrix cover track was in the setlist offing.

This was surprising since the opening DM tribute band Halovox sounded quite good using what appeared to be the same EQ audio stack and PA setup.

BTW: they did a nice set of original material along with some fine covers of 'Enjoy The Silence' and Pete Gotwin's 'Images of Heaven'

IMO, the sub par sound limited APB's ability to generate the level of audience enthusiasm so deserving of a band returning from a 15+ year hiatus. Instead, there were some awkward moments of prolonged silence between songs that prompted some nervous quips to the crowd.

Despite this, they did deliver some rousing funky bass infused tunes, my faves being Danceability, Rainy Day and of course their encore 'Shoot You Down'

I hope these three fine Scotsmen still came away feeling they were well received here on LI and will pay us another visit in the not too distant future. Please do come back!

I can still hardly believe the last time I saw them was @Heartbeat back in the winter of '86/'87.

Finally, kudos to the gent(s) manning the MB II wheels who spun some great nostalgic club trax such as 'Everythings Gone Green', 'Touch', 'I Wanted To Tell Her', 'Marcia Baila' among others. Thank You!

Ebbhead, "Something to Believe in" was not played for us at the show. [:(]
And the club was very small.

I think the song that really had us going was "What kind of Girl". After hearing that, we were dancing in our little spot in the crowd.

Yep.. that one and 'Summer Love' were sorely missed.. but we were forewarned!

Speaking of getting the crowd going, at one point two gals briefly got up on stage to 'get down' before getting hustled off (much like the Ritz gig video shown on youtube)[:D].

Bummer about STBI. Sorry to hear that. My friend got some of it on her camera. Will see if I can post a link, but I'm sure the quality is insanely sketchy, at best.

Although not a radio hit for them here, I would have also liked to hear So Many Broken Hearts. Maybe next time. [;)]

Hey Retro,

I have to agree that the sound quality was indeed poor and the stage lighting could have been better. Yep, same sound guy did both Halovox and apb. I mentioned something to the sound guys during the Halovox set, but was told that apb wanted it that way and they spent around 3 hours performing sound tests before we opened the doors at 9:00. Not enough highs or volume for that matter (IMO) - could have been much louder like the days I used to go to a concert and left deaf. I like it loud.

As for the music, that was me spinning for Cody - bringing back a taste of the music I used to play at SpizeII back in the days. apb appreciated "A Certain Ratio" as well as the others who new the songs 'Do The Du' and 'Shack Up' since they didn't leave the dance floor while playing them. I feel old. Wish you NWO ppls came up to the booth to say hello - maybe next time.

SpizeII, I kept on looking at the DJ booth and wondering if you were up there. I was hoping the DJ would have given us NWOP people a shout out. I would have loved to meet you. My fault. [:(]

Funny SPIZEII, I was also waiting for the NWO shoutout and figured since none was forthcoming, you weren't 'in dah howse' and we were on our own. Also thanks for mentioning A Certain Ratio. For some reason I couldn't name the artist when the song came on.[:I] Again, kudos for a great set of songs played that night. (my wife really dug it too!)[8D]
