Microsoft's effort to challenge apple, I'm sure it will take market share, let's hope it pushes down prices (doubtful as well)

A free market society breeds competition and this is always good for the consumer as it spurs innovation. But I don't think Apple will ever lower prices. They're like Sony in that they offer more and/or better for the same price as their product line evolves. Or they offer new product consistent with a lower price point. Funny reading this now, I just came back from the Apple store, having bought the four GB Nano for my wife.

Actually some of their prices have gone down compared to what it used to be. I'd stick with ipod just because I know they work with my imac! I love my little ipod shuffle![:)]

All I know is, if this new player offers a "gapless playback" feature (eliminating the half-second gap between songs that ruins the mood of live albums or any other album where the songs blend together), I'm all over it. Apple has consistently refused to address this issue.

I don't think I notice a half-second gap but then I haven't tried putting live stuff on my mp3 player yet...

For the gapless playback, they should have the players recognize cuesheets.

Maybe some innovation will spawn one of these that uses wireless interent to access your collection off your home computer instead of having to carry around music. You kno....listen to your Terabyte of music on your 2GB ipod instead.

Why am I the only person who sees this?

[/quote]Oh sure, if you add up al those half-second gaps in your day, you could get a lot more done. [:D][;)]
Of course I love ladies with a gap as well. [:D][:p]

Can't you already do that with a GPRS MP3 mobile phone?

The price of an I-Pod is a rip off (you could feed like 3 families in a month with that) but as they offer an excellent product, they can put it at that price.. simple rules of capitalism.
However, there's a whole world of options here in Argentina outside an I-pod as Apple sells them here even at a higher price that up there.
I want to buy an MP3 player for myself soon.. not an I-Pod but one with space for my songs. [8D]
