Clerks 2

Postby SwampThing » Mon Jul 17, 2006 1:44 am

I'm a big fan of the movie Clerks. Needless to say I was very suprised to hear Clerks II was in the works. Yes, I'm going to see it, but my expectations are very low. Kevin Smith hasn't had a hit for quite a while now, so it looks like he's going back his roots, the movie that broke his career.

Will it help or hurt his career? Any thoughts?

I heard it got an 8 minute standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival, dor whatever that's worth.

I don't think it could ever be as good as the original but it has to be better than "Jersey Girl".

Clerks was an unintended classic. Any attempt to repeat that just seems like a money grab by the ever-since persistently BAD Kevin Smith. The trailers seem to emphasize Jay and Silent Bob. They weren't the stars of Clerks; Dante and Randal were so I hope it still emphasizes them. I've always thought Jay was a dick whose smug face I've always wanted to cave in, and Kevin Smith is, again, just BAD. It could be good (I hope so)...or it could be another self-serving Smith smugfest.

3 days til Clerks 2!!

conundrum:

Wife wants me to "save" the movie for her. She's going to the beach with the girls for the weekend. Do i go on Friday or is Sunday afternoon acceptable?

disclosure: beach weekend was booked before Clerks 2 was moved up from August.

Plus....those guys in Clerks 1 were cool and they were young.

Nowadays...they just look kinda old....and underemployed.

At the beginning? Goodbye Horses by Q Lazzarus. You probably know it from Silence Of The Lambs.

In one of the trailers at the end I thought I heard, Everybody's Gotta Learn Sometime..

Well he gets points for the soundtrack, anyway...

I saw it last night and laughed pretty hard at a lot of stuff. Lots of funny moments in this one and some funny echoes of previous movies as well.

I just went to try and see it...but NO!

Its not playing in my town.

Bastards. I figure the college atmosphere would generate a really high appeal for it. (no pun, guys).

And also....we all have this cult love for the whole series...and especially the early ones like Clerks and Mall Rats.

I saw it last night and liked it. It gave some more depth, and closure to Dante and Randall.

Of course, it had tons of gross humor like we have come to expect. I didn't see the Ben Affleck cameo. According to IMDB, he's listed.

And to think I saw the original Clerks in a college lecture hall.

There wasn't enough "interacting with weird customers" like in the first one.
