Stella, you need to get out and meet some black folks if you think that is representative of black America. You have a rather simplistic view of "black" culture. It is way more complicated than the single stereotype you guys are buying into. Using the lowest common denominator as a means to represent a race is pretty foolish.

Stella, I have to agree with Beatschool.

At first I thought Philly was harping on African-American Vernacular English, and based on the responses, I'm not alone. Turns out he just thought the checker was down right rude. Hell, they could have been speaking that goofy sounding New York–New Jersey English and it still would have been just plain rude.

Surly Philly would have vented on this forum if the checker were speaking "New York–New Jersey English", right? Fogettaboutit!

<br>Black culture in America is a weird thing to think about. We get further and further apart. Where will it end?
That jibber-jabber that Philly experienced wasn't a result of black culture. It was just some ignorant shit. I see white kids talk like that all the time. I guess they think it makes them look "dope", or whatever the current ghetto/whigger slang is.
Exactly. This is a story about customer service, not a commentary about any particular race.

I was thinking the same thing. This story could have easily been replaced with a (pardon the slang) redneck trailer chick instead and the point of the story would have been the same. Instead of saying "She think she can get whit any homey!" she could have been saying "She think she can be fixin' on any guy."

*Edited because, for as long as I have lived in the South, I still have no idea of the proper usage of the word fixin'.

I'm fairly sure that "fixin'" shouldn't be used alone and needs to be followed by the word "to". For example "We're fixin' to pick up Billy Bob and go coon huntin'."

You got the venacular right. "To" always follows "fixin" unless the word fixin' is used like so: "We're having chicken and fixin's".

One thing I've noticed since moving from Canada to Texas is that when you say thank you, most people say uh-huh, not you're welcome. That really bothers me. I find that rude.

You are all racists!
I never said they were black! Bwahahahaha!
(well, ok, they were, but I never said it) And Swamp was right, I really was just pissed at the rudeness of the checkout girl.

Or, "I'm fixin' lunch." "I'm fixin' the car." But, yeah, most of the time, you've got to follow it with "to."

I'm been trying so hard not to say "fixin'" anymore. I can't stand the howls of laughter in my office when I say "y'all" or "fixin'" or, the absolute worst, "all y'alls."

I'm not a native southener, but I'm embracing the local venacular and slang. It has it's charms.
