People are people. They slow down to inspect traffic accidents, pay to watch other humans beat each other in blood sports and have an innate interest in gore. It's no different than in the days of The Gladiators.

It's a shame when people die but we all will. And yes, when an overacting buffoon traumatizes and exploits animals in the name of "conservancy and education", a part of me hopes he gets stung, bitten, etc. I'm not going to cry over someone who acted carelessly and took unnecessary risks. I suppose you think he was "educating" his 2 month old when he took him in to feed the croc.

Chastise if you want, if you feel above all that. At least the show Jackass didn't pretend to be anything else than what it was. And if people didn't enjoy the type of programming where there was a chance something could go terribly wrong, Johnny Knoxville would not be famous. There's your proof.

If you think I'm just trying to stir things up and light a fire, you haven't read my posts and you're missing the point. I've better things to do than that.

Yes people are most definitely people and they are taking pause at the sad loss of this iconic, larger than life person.

What you fail to see in your self absorbed arrogance is that Jackasses will most definitely be Jackasses, if your pathetic adherance to that show's ethos proves anything. Johnny Knoxville? Are you fucking serious? You call that proof? Do you really think such logic is worthy of he who's name you quote in order to boost perception of your apparently diminished IQ? Wake up from your delusional gladiator days and join the rest of us here in the twenty first century, you dolt.
Quote John Stainton
Irwin was at Batt Reef, off the remote coast of northeastern Queensland state, shooting a segment for a series called "Ocean's Deadliest" when he swam too close to one of the animals, which have a poisonous barb on their tails, his friend and colleague John Stainton said.

"He came on top of the stingray and the stingray's barb went up and into his chest and put a hole into his heart," said Stainton, who was on board Irwin's boat at the time.
I saw on the news, some Stingray expert said he basically got stabbed in the heart and that's what killed him, not the poison -- it was a freak accident, but when a person gets stabbed in the heart, that's very difficult to recover from.

Ooh, name calling and personal putdowns. The last bastion of those that either have no argument, are too inarticulate to express it or have let their emotions run amuck at the expense of their logic.

I am glad to see that, as a moderator here, you have been able to maintain a sense of balance and are presenting a shining example of encouraging diverse viewpoints, whether or not you agree with them.

Anyway, enough pissing here. You obviously have a hard-on for Irwin. Which explains the fact that you can't see the parallels between his TV show and lame reality shows like Jackass are many. You don't seem to realize or care that this man subjected animals to great distress for your own viewing pleasure. And that makes you part of the problem.

I'll leave you with this blurb from http://www.theage.com.au/news/World/Irw ... 09840.html

Steve Irwin: The Death of an Animal Tormentor

The animal world has taken revenge on self-deluded animal tormentor Steve Irwin, according to expatriate Australian academic and writer Germaine Greer.

She described Irwin's behaviour as "bizarre", noting the famed incident when he held his baby son while feeding a crocodile during a show at his Australia Zoo on the Sunshine Coast.

"The whole spectacle was revolting," Greer said.

"The crocodile would rather have been anywhere else and the chicken had a grim life too, but that's entertainment at Australia Zoo."

She dismissed Irwin's explanation that he had the situation under control and could not have slipped or stumbled.

"That sort of self-delusion is what it takes to be a real Aussie larrikin," Greer said.

"What Irwin never seemed to understand was that animals need space.

"There was no habitat, no matter how fragile or finely balanced, that Irwin hesitated to barge into, trumpeting his wonder and amazement to the skies.

"There was not an animal he was not prepared to manhandle.

"Every creature he brandished at the camera was in distress.

"The animal world has finally taken its revenge on Irwin, but probably not before a whole generation of kids in shorts seven sizes too small has learned to shout in the ears of animals with hearing ten times more acute than theirs, determined to become millionaire animal-loving zoo-owners in their turn."

We can all deal with opinions here it's just the foolish logic behind some of them that deserves to be called out for what they are. Insensitive does'nt even begin to describe your comments and I'm happy to speak for the silent group who that find you so offensive. The right to an opinion does'nt necessarily deserve the right to be taken seriously. And you my friend, are having a hard time being taken seriously. I suggest you take your cheap cynicism elsewhere. That little tower of moral superiority you're trying to climb? Forget it, it barely reaches the curb.

And by the way, I'm sorry but in this capacity I'm acting as board member and not a moderator.

Maybe a reminder of a few lessons you may have missed from your parents would be in order. The timing of the delivery of your opinion is distasteful. Death is not the opportunity for negative criticism, no matter what the origin of such complaint. It seems that you are the one with the "hard on" [V] for Steve Irwin, to take the passing of this huge wildlife guardian as an opportunity to stand on a podium and decry his life's work. Cheap, cheap, cheap shot. You have no couth. Those sharing sorrow should not have to be exposed to your expostulation. You are an opportunistic predator of people's vulnerabilities and you will garner no respect by veiling yourself in nobility.

Too true. That footage still makes me ill... and I hate children. I expect that sort of thing from the likes of Wacko Jacko, but not from somebody supposedly sane. His excuse was pretty pathetic, too. "What kind of father would I be if I didn't teach my children about the dangers in their backyard, blah blah blah." Um, your kid's in diapers. I don't care if he's the world's biggest child prodigy; he's not old enough to know what the hell you're doing. And 2, how are you planning on teaching that to him? By letting him experience a crocodile bite before his first birthday? So, yeah, his recklessness cost those two kids a father, but on the bright side, now they probably won't get eaten by anything.
