What's Your Ringtone?

Hmm....what do we consider the old days? Before cell phones? Before DVD's? Before CD's? Before computers? Before TV? Before radio? Before records? Before land line phones? Before cars? Before electricity? Before the mail service or maybe the pony express?

I think it's interesting how some will fight technology and not see how it might or can improve life. I'm not saying there isn't a down side to any new technology, (ie. cell phones = cancer?) but it seems that eventually the new generation comes along and never knew life without them.

I use my cell every day, all day. It's a necessity, not for me so much as it is for those who have to get a hold of me just to piss me off. I've had the same cell phone # since 1988...

Ringtone...whatever the phone was set to when I got it. I'm not into that customized stuff.

Well? Answer my questions! How do I get ringtones? How much are they? One time charge?

You are so right! These teens that I teach, they CANNOT imagine NOT having their cell phones. Or not being able to text. They accept this technology wholeheartedly. That is perfectly fine for them--that's the world they live in; indeed, the world that most of us live in. The real world today.
However, just because everyobody else is doing it, doesn't mean that I need to. I just have no use, want, or need for a cell phone. No matter what my job is or would be.

I guess what I mean by "the old days" was the days before cell phones. If you weren't at home, able to use your own land line phone, then there were always payphones for you to use (does anyone notice that payphones are harder and harder to find nowadays ? Phone companies no longer find them profitable). No payphones around ? You could always ask at the place you were at if you could use their phone. (store, school, business, etc.) This was the world I grew up in.

But get this: Everytime the school district here talks about banning cell phones, it's the PARENTS who sqwak and protest the loudest! They all protest that they NEED to be in constant contact with their kids--when to pick them up from school, when to give them a mesage, when there's a crazed gunman at the school....and all I'm saying is that, sure, it's nice, but is it really necessary ? When did convenience trump everything? I just don't buy into that "being in constant touch" argument. (with some very limited exceptions, such as paramedics or folks like that). When we all were growing up, if our parents needed to get hold of us, they called and left a message with the school, which would get delivered to us during 4th period or whatever. They'd make prior arrangements where and when to pick us up. And so on.
Just my humble opinion.[8)]

I also carry mine daily! (I don't have a landline). It's very comfortable 'coz sometimes I go to work or to any gatherings LATE, so I need to make calls to inform the people concerned. I also find it highly important to be able to reach people on "emergency" cases- without any delay... but of course, I can not be reached easily by other people![:D] There is an option not to accept calls from anyone. So, when people call and I don't want to answer, then they will hear a busy signal while my phone shows their no.- so I can call them back if, and only IF- I am interested (or when I think it is important) [8D]

Philly, since you're on Cingular, go here:

http://www.cingular.com/media/ringtones_graphics

You'll have to register at the site and then they'll bill you per whatever the terms & conditions are (could be one time fee, could be a charge every 90 days, etc).

My phone's on Sprint, so I'm not exactly sure how it will work at Cingular, but it should something similar.

Philly, I have Cingular. Go to their website and create an account. There's a link somewhere (not too hard to find) that'll get you to the ringtones. There will be a place to select your phone model (so you'll know exactly what kinds of ringtones you can use--real music or that midi-sounding crap). Find the ring tone you want and buy it. You'll get a text message from Cingular; confirm that whatever link they send you is the tone you want; OK it; download it to your phone; apply it as your ringtone. It's a one-time charge (I think ringtones are $1.99). HOWEVER, if you upgrade phones, you'll lose it. I upgraded my phone a few months ago and had to re-buy the three I use, which I think is pretty crappy.

I inherited my partner's old cellphone. I just discovered that he put "Jesus Take the Wheel" on as the ringtone. I can't figure out if it's a cruel joke or if I need to start stocking up on communion biscuits.

I thought Carrie Underwood was haunting my bookbag...

Interesting. My trac phone was just stolen at university yesterday - literally plucked from my book bag while I stupidly left it for two seconds to grab a bacon croissandwich. Damn kids.[:(!] I've called and called and left at least 20 nasty messages but they have set it to automatic voice mail.

Oh, anyway, the ringtone was "Ma Na Ma Na" by the muppets.

ringtone: DM's Behind the Wheel
text message: The Clashs' London Calling
vmx: Psych Furs Heartbreak Beat

and philly, you can go through the web on the phone itself to download the tunes if you want. My husband's co pays for my phone, so I felt free to use the web on the phone rather than use my computer to do it!
