I saw a movie called "Brick" on Saturday night, which may make it onto my list of cult faves. It stars the kid from 3rd Rock from the Sun. It has a film noir plot and dialogue (great dialogue, at that), but it's set completely in high school. Pretty cool movie.

<br>Has anyone seen a Japanese horror movie called Pulse? I've heard great things about it - is it as spooky & eerie as the reviews claim? I love a good ghost story - not such a fan of gore and stuff.

Hey Wolvie~

The original Japanese version is called "Kairo", and if you like slow, dread-drenched, tension-building, atmospheric horror films, then give it a try. The American remake - titled "Pulse" - is as tepid as all the other American remakes of J-horror films (with the exception of the American remake of "The Ring").

Okay, I saw the Cook, the theif, his wife and her lover. Disturbing is definately the right word. However, it had some great lines.

One of my all time cheesy horror movie faves was Phantasm 1 and 2. Can't get any better than the tall man.

The Tall Man rocks. So does the sphere. Phantasm 1 scared the bejesus outta me when I first saw it back in the early 80's. Maybe you knew there was a 3rd and 4th installment in the series - but for the life of me I couldn't figure out what was going on in them due to all the weird dream(?) scenes. Supposedly no. 5 is on the way to wrap it all up.

With the Phantasm series, I've found that you can watch the 1st and 4th (Oblivion) installments back to back, and they make for a more complete Tall Man mythology - almost like the 4th is a direct sequel to the 1st. The 2nd and 3rd films are alright - especially for all the Reggie action - but they do tend to meander and add to the story's sometimes confusing plotline. Try watching the 1st and the 4th back to back and maybe you'll grok what I mean. Rock!

I do love that kind of horror movie. I thought they just renamed the Japanese version "Pulse" for American audiences - I didn't realize it was an entire remake. Thanks for the tip - I'll look for Kairo!

* ALONE IN THE DARK - plot: A quartet of murderous psychopaths break out of a mental hospital during a power blackout and lay siege to their doctor's house. Starring Jack Palance, Donald Pleasence and a very spooky/funny Martin Landau.

I've heard good things about this one, and have it queued up on my Netflix list.
