Other than an iPod ?

OK, the iPod is ubiquitous. I touched/handled on back in April and it was indeed pretty cool. (I'm not a techy).

My question is: (Marv, Blir, cover you ears[;)]) What other types of mp3 players do any of you recommend ? I think I'm finally ready to procure one. I don't have a Mac, nor do I have iTunes (altho I know that iTunes rocks). Anyone have mp3 players that are not iPods and what do you think ? What features do you like/dislike about them and what brands are recommended ? Or are they all pretty much the same ?[?] Thanks for your input.

I can't recommend a different player, but just want to throw in that iTunes & iPods work with both Macs and PCs. I wasn't sure from your post if you just don't want an iPod or maybe thought one would not be compatible with your computer.

yeah, please excuse my lack of knowledge.[:)] I have nothing against iPods and it's not that I don't want one; I just thought it would not be compatible w/ my computer.

I would love an mp3 player too - but I'm afraid an ipod would be too expensive for me. I really want something that will hook up to my stereo & still be inexpensive...and of course, have more than 1 or 2 gigs of memory.

I keep seeing ads for mp3 players for like $ 19.99 and $29.99 in the local Kmart flyers, and I can't help thinking that that seems way too cheap to be any good.

I'm in the same boat with you, KYYX. I had no idea about any of this stuff until MOS bought one. We have an iPod with an insane amount of storage. It's fully compatible with our PC. I don't use it, because I have an aversion to stuff like that, but MOS loves it.

Creative Zens have excellent battery life, they run as stable as a rock...and wont give you any trouble.

God forbid if your computer freezes in the middle of an upload...the hard drive on my Zen died when that happened. I get a new mp3 player every 6 months now....

Up to a 60GB Ipod Video...and Im really liking it. The screen is the most scratchiest piece of work ever concieved though.
If you look at it or breathe on it wrong....you'll see scratches form right before your eyes.

Oh, see my newly posted topic on microsofts attempt at it. I could never imagine anything but an ipod and my family has a bunch: mini's, photo(oops, should have waited) and video and they all are great!

Anyone know anything about this player?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6855501138

It has the best capacity for the price that I've seen.

I'm on my second iPod (went from a 10 gig to a 60...a WEEK before iPod videos hit the market[:(!]), and could not see having anything else but. And, although I'm a form over function person, it more than satisifes both.

I've never encountered a single problem with it (looking for a real wood to knock on), BUT...the one thing that I find bothersome as HELL, is its poor ability to choose songs randomly. I have over 4500 songs, and many times it will choose two songs in a row by the same artist, or choose many of the same songs when I start the cycle over again.

And in my humble opinion, there isn't an easier jukebox to use than iTunes...
