New guy at work is a new waver

Postby scramjet » Thu Aug 03, 2006 1:09 am

So I go into this guy's office to talk about something work-related and I can't help noticing something synth-poppy coming from his computer speakers. We end up in a big conversation about our mp3 collections. He's got a pretty impressive collection. Anyone else run into a fellow new waver where you least expect?

I am still waiting for this to happen to me[:)]. None of my current friends or co-workers get into the Wave, at least not that I know about. Recently, an older guy in his 50s who is a regular at my husband's microbrewery told us he was a huge Duran fan--how cool!--but we didn't get to talk about it.
But this past weekend, I finally got my real-life conversational Wave on when The Prids were in town. While they were crashing at my place, we had all kinds of discussions about NW and related music. They really knew their stuff.

The woman I share an office with likes New Wave. She's about 5 years younger than me, so she's more into the mid to late 80's stuff rather than my dinosaurian late 70's early 80's.

We have a good time.

<p align="justify">My best friend, whom I also met at work, started talking to me because of the music I used to listen to in my cubicle. He asked me about the Alphaville album I was listening to[8D]

I was surprised to see a coworker have Mini-CDs titled "Shreikback". Heck, surprised to see Mini-CDs period.

I used to work with a British guy (our Production Manager) here in Dubai and one time I heard him singing a Clash song (I forgot exactly which one), and I instinctively sang along![:D]. Alas, he was pleasantly surprised and so we started chatting about how cool The Clash was/is and how his band (he used to play as a drummer) used to cover most of their songs. He raved about all the good times they had, etc. etc. and he couldn't believe that some chick about 15 years younger than him digs the music he was listening to back then! [8D][:D]
