What are the chances of a chat ?

Hello all,
I was wondering if there was some way MikeP could establish a chat for the NWO, I know many other message boards on the web have one, but I don't know full details. Being an ex-member for the HUB I will be the first to say chatting with many of you was the highlight of the HUB, forget the music but let's chit chat a bit. Let me know what the chances are for something like this? is it expensive? is it easy to maintain? I am sure it would be a happenin' thing, don't you all think? I do know that it can be loads of fun, maybe a trivia game? maybe a talk about a band? lots to do but I want to know the moderators take on this, and of course MikeP's thought on it all.
Thank you,
Justin

Yeah....but couldnt we also just get a hub up and running so that we can just all log into that and get our chat fixes and new wave fixes at the same time?
{this is the part that is Frayo-esque and weird...just let it be}
Im not for killing two birds with one stone...Im for killing about 300 with a rocket. Getting as much done as possible....things like these justify my moving my computer into the dorms bathroom so that I never have to leave......
{aighty, thats it}

The HUB is a complicated and messy idea, not to mention it seems to be a private social event these days, if we had something here we can get to know everyone on the board and not have to worry about registering for the HUB, that will turn into a chaotic mess, let's see how a chat here on the NWO works out, I'm sure more people here agree this is a good idea. Thanks for the support Philly and WolverineSyr, this can be a lot of fun!

Thanks for the support Frayo, I know this is not my decision but I really want to push for this, the more support the better, MikeP is sure to give in [;)]

I just chatted with MikeP on Wednesday....
We're hitting the road in the morning for some music shopping, so we'll probably chat then, too.
I've chatted with him quite a few times. He's very chatty.
So, he's got no problem with chatting.....
Oh, you mean chatting online? Oh dear.

Mike P, is still his own man.
But still...I'd do anything for awesomeness on the NWO outpost.
I would even strip naked, be covered in glue, roll around in cheetos, and then spray painted with the "The New Wave Outpost Rules" in blue letters on all the cheetos...I would eventually get the munchies and eat a few of them...but Im sure the world (The quad) would get the point (or not).

EDIT:
Uhh I noticed that it said "Thank you for your contribution" and I realized..that post contributed weirdness....It should be all like "WTF, now, Frayo?"....yeah.

Apple has iChat, and of course there's AIM - AOL instant messenger, which works great. I don't know if it's possible to have more than 2 people on there.

I can see where this may become a 'social' problem, but if all systems are go! I'm for it and will be sure to chat it up with the gang on a nightly basis

Um, I thought we chatted here already. How is a "chat room" any different?[?] Just curious.

You can form a room...and it has a title for the room and people can join it...you can PW protect it if you want.
But yes, the program has a barely used chat program. I never use it. I just keep 5,000 windows open all the time...and just assume that everyone can read whats (pray for them) inside my head.

Using things like "Ventrillo" or "TeamSpeak" which are usually used for gaming, you can actually SPEAK to people over the internet. Y'know, with a microphone, but someone has to host/pay for it. It's probably not a good idea.

At this time, I don't plan on adding any kind of real-time chat/IM features to the site, but if anyone wants to host such an animal, I will certainly help promote it via links, etc.
BTW, if you're wondering why I've been nearly absent from the boards for the past couple weeks and the SOTW is getting stale ... my condo was damaged from flooding from my upstairs neighbors and not only are my fiancee and I having to stay elsewhere, we don't have an internet connection. I've got a crapload of home repairs to look forward to in the coming weeks so please bear with me if it seems like I'm playing hookie from my presidential duties![:(]
