I think that were the tables reversed, the other side would not have shown such restraint.

That's one thing that's always bothered me about this war. It's like we're fighting it with one hand tied behind our back. I guarantee you, if we fought the way they did, it would have been over a long time ago.

During war time it's the goldest of golden opportunities to catch the enemy with thier pants down and vulnerable and we blew that opportunity. Look what the NVA did to us with the TET offensive.

But you can bet that if we did bomb them, which we had every right to, every other country and every ultra whatever and every news paper would say America is barbaric.

From the article:

This is what seperates us from them. The question is, can we win a war this way? I think it was a good move myself since part of the Afgahn country supports the Taliban, and bombing a funeral would be really bad PR on our part. Better to pick them off in smaller groups that won't get publicity.

I don't know. I'm generally against blowing people up but I got to admit war is war. We got these ideas about humane treatment of prisoners and sparing civilians that just do not make it in the real world anymore. We were brought up on the idea of fair play and doing unto others and we forget that this is Christian concept, meaningless in other parts of the world.
One problem with Afghanistan and Iraq is that we are not at war with those countries. We went in to get a criminal faction and we got to be really careful not to harm those we defend. We're fighting with both hands tied behind our backs. We are the most powerful country in the world but if we play the game using half measures we can't win. How’s this for a plan, a message to the Iranian people, stop your leaders from pursuing nuclear capabilities within one week or we will deliver you THE BOMB right up your ass. If we are going to be the world’s bad guys Lets Roll for real.
Now I got to go look foe my soul, later.

Do we want to take the moral high ground or be in the burial ground?
What did general Patton say " You don't go to war to die for your country, but to make the other poor bastard die for his"

I agree. Although, unfortunately, with torture chambers, secret prisons, endless detention, wars started for lies, not much separates us from them these days. Bush long ago surrendered much of the high ground. While it may be justified, the Afghan war can't be won, especially with so much of our strength in Iraq. The Russians tried it, The Brits tried it, now we're trying it. I say pull the grunts out, bring them home, and pound them from the air if they ever act up. Endless occupation of the cities while the countryside forever remainds bandit country is pointless . . .

They say it anyways, no matter how good (or bad) our intentions are. May as well stop trying to make friends out of folks that'll hate us no matter what we do (oooh, I'm so sad that Venezuela don't like us), and just knock the living piss out of that muslim death cult.

So are we all ready to drop the Geneva Conventions, Rule of Engagement and the UN? If our enemies don't adhere to these standards, what's the point, right? Can a civilized nation, following all the general acceptable rules of civility win a war gainst the uncivilized?
Hutter, you think we should kill em' all?. How can we tell a Taliban fighter from just a regular Taliban supporter? Is there a difference? Does it matter? Is the battle for hearts and minds winnable?
I think these are all valid questions, and we should have decided the answers long before we engaged.
