Pope on dope?

So why would he go here in quoting a Byzantine emperor of 600 years ago...

"He said, I quote, 'Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached.' "

And even more illogically, just what are people like the Mujahedeen Shura Counci protesting against when their response parrots exactly what the quote says...

"To 'the worshipper of the cross' (the Pope) 'you and the West are doomed as you can see from the defeat in Iraq, Afghanistan, Chechnya and elsewhere. ... We will break up the cross, spill the liquor and impose head tax, then the only thing acceptable is a conversion (to Islam) or (death by) the sword.' "

Moronic. What are they protesting? The truths of their actions? I don't know where all this is going. One side issues statements of holy war and carries out terrorism, and the other side is perceived to have embarked on undeclared holy war. Are we in an actual holy war then?

Fucking ridiculous!!

I am still willing to offer my services as the focal point (read deity) of a new faith if it will put an end to the stupidity that is most mainstream religion. I feel it is the least I can do.

Seriously, Muslims have a degree of intolerance for the viewpoints of others that is unparalleled. They also shoot first, and ask questions later...shit, the guy was reading from text that was hundreds of years old and merely citing example, not offering his opinion or passing judgement on their faith. Grow up and join the real world folks...you can't keep living a thousand years in the past.

They got their apology for the cartoons, and now an apology for this...when will somebody from the Islamic faith apologize for Ahmadinejad's Holocaust cartoon contest?

How about never...

It's time to stop apologizing for imagined offenses and time to start knocking heads. Fucktards.

Why did the pope make those remarks in the first place? The pope should only talk of peace and not say things to enrage an already volatile situation.

What a dipshit. Holy War? I hope we can hold out 40 years before that happens. I'm not loving the idea of dying in someone else's pissing match over imaginary leaders/shepherds/almightys/whatevers. [V]

I just find it interesting that the Muslims that disagree with the "statement" are showing their disapproval with evil violent ways. So is the "statement" really that far off the truth?

Why have I not seen a Muslim leader denounce any of the protestors violence? Just a thought.

Will someone offer up that if a moderate Muslim leader does denounce these actions then the moderate Muslim leader will be the next target? Maybe so--but be a leader damnit and stand up to these radical morons!!!!!!!

The Pope has the right to say whatever the fuck he wants...why is it everyone else's responsibility to ensure that nothing is said to inflame Islamic opinion? The Islamic world should stuff a huge cork into the mouths some of their leading religious/political figures, as their comments are at least as inflammatory as anything the Pope has said.

Seems to me there is no peaceful co-existence with the segment of Islam that wants it all. Anything short of rolling over and dying has the potential to be volitile situation. They pressure the moderate voices into the shadows, thus killing any chance of a rational solution to be found.

I'm tired of walking on eggshells lest I offend a Muslim...the sooner they learn to suck up an opposing opinion the better.

Bang On!!

http://vancouver.indymedia.org/?q=node/1826

I've listened to this guy speak on radio, and he in effect he was ashamed of how the Islamic faith has been "hijacked" by self serving zealots.

All of the death threats he's received have been from the Muslim community, including one I actually heard during a call in portion of the program I was listening to.

Shameful...the religion of peace my ass.

Some of you speak of Muslims being angry and needing to destroy when you say and wish for the same things? . What you fear they are, you are...What you hate they say, you say...From my point of view There really is no difference from either side. And again I emphasize that the pope should only speak of promoting peace otherwise he's not doing Gods work. A WAR pope? please! Maybe he finds it hard to forget his Nazi youth teachings.

Right: let's keep it to a few thousand WAR Imams. Shouldn't the "religion of peace" at some point at least consider a peaceful end to things? Back to Blir's original post:

"To 'the worshipper of the cross' (the Pope) 'you and the West are doomed as you can see from the defeat in Iraq, Afghanistan, Chechnya and elsewhere. ... We will break up the cross, spill the liquor and impose head tax, then the only thing acceptable is a conversion (to Islam) or (death by) the sword.' "

A wise and respected man once said here...

<br>Could you ever imagine a third world/dictatorship type country with an ACLU type system going on in that country? An "Axis of Evil" type country that shows acceptance towards Minorities and gays and has open borders and welfare for the poor. A place with fair voting takes place and their media is fair and balanced? A place where religion doesn't interfere and the people are free to say whatever? A place where they respect a Constitution. A place as free as ours?
So which is it? Universal moral equivilence or an admission to there being Axes of Evil (pronounced 'eeeveel as in the fru-eeets of the deveeel').
