New Order 'Low Life' Definitive Edition out Jan 27 2023

Postby Glenn » Thu Nov 10, 2022 10:33 am

From their online store:

Definitive edition of their 1985 studio album Low-Life that includes the original album on 180g vinyl LP and CD – remastered. A second CD of unreleased audio, x2 DVDs of live performances from 1984 & 1985, plus a hardback book.

The vinyl album and CD are both wrapped in the original tracing-paper sleeve – not available since the very first pressing, and the first time ever for the CD

CD 2 contains 12 previously unreleased mixes and alternative versions, including Love Vigilantes and Sub-Culture instrumentals, plus Sooner Than You Think Full Length Unedited.

The two DVDs include rarely seen live performances from Rotterdam Arena (Netherlands), Koseinenkin Hall (Tokyo, Japan) and the International Centre (Toronto, Canada) alongside a BBC session and three tracks performed at the Hacienda in 1985.

I'd like to hear the unedited Sooner Than You Think, but apart from that...?

Until they release a corrected/enhanced "Substance" I can't get behind any ultra boxes for their albums. I didn't find any particular album as compelling as their 12" singles.

You're right. Still hoping for a Factory CD single box set, but I don't think that's ever going to happen.

How can these N.O.-boxsets be “definitive” if it fails to include the remixes/b-sides from the 12″ singles?…

I agree with both of you. I love lots of New Order, but for the most part, their albums have been the least interesting or satisfying to me. Always thought it was weird that some of their best singles never even appeared on the albums. That said, "Low-life" is probably one of my favorite overall albums, but there's still nothing here to suck me in.

because they've already been released on the deluxe cd versions already.

i'm all in:
bought the super deluxe edition, the tshirt in both colors
both versions of the perfect kiss, the crystal clear and black.

all the re-released 12 inch singles.

its their second best album to me, after power corruption and lies.

i have all their other boxsets and will be getting future ones.

substance is old, and has been covered already with the reissued singles compilations (mostly),
or just find the originals.

new order isn't getting any younger, and holding out for non-releases or future speculation is pointless.

the price isn't important either if you collect them, like i do.

Did anyone buy this?

Did they fix the one-channel dropout on that album track (from the 2CD remaster)?

.

Are they talking about US releases? I have UK CD and it has the tracing paper, with each photo as separate pages. I'm pretty sure the CA pressing was like that, as well.

yes, i have it.

haven't noticed any dropout.

the tracing paper sleeves are like the UK releases, and yes, the canadian one might have had them also.

Just arrived!

Haven't had time to listen/watch, but the packaging is superb!

I didn't think about the CD package for the album being a vinyl replica, which isn't the same as the jewel case with tracing paper cover :-D .

All discs include an inner, with the vinyl in a separate plastic slip, so the artwork inner doesn't get ripped in transit. None of the CD/DVDs had a mark on them, which is a complaint from some people (including myself) when not held in place with the hub/teeth thing. Inner sleeve is big enough for the plastic CD slips that I bought (off eBay or somewhere).

Still paid too much for it. $135CAD + tax, when I think it should be $100 at most (vinyl $40, CDs $30, DVDs $30). Oh well, my favourite New Order album. Nice to finally have it on vinyl without the tracing paper being ripped at the top :-D (bought it used previously, CA and UK pressings).
