Reissue of Ministry's "With Sympathy"?

Postby fanciz » Mon Feb 27, 2006 2:01 pm

Let's not exagerate, With Sympathy is not one of the best NW albums of all time....I share the opinion of Rubellan, this CD has 2 very good songs Revenge and Effigy and 2 acceptable songs, I want To Tell Her and Say You're Sorry. The rest is............ Bof!

Nevertheless, I will get it![;)]

I believe the whole album is great!

fanciz- Why would you get it if you like less than half of it?
I could rip you those MP3's.

"Every Day is Halloween" is another great track from tha era.

While this album sounds dated to me (and some of the songs, such as "What He Say," are quite cheesy), I still love it. It's very much "of the era" and I listened to it non-stop when I first bought it in 1983. I guess I listen to it more for the nostalgia than "quality musicianship." Still, I get very happy whenever Sirius plays cuts from it like "Revenge," "I Wanted To Tell Her," "Work For Love," etc. It will always hold a place in my collection...

I tend to agree that the final sound on the record probably isn't so "forced by the record company" as Al has said in numerous interviews. That's always an easy cop-out when an artist is embarrassed by their work. Just admit that you were young, or inexperienced, or simply hadn't "found your true voice" yet!

I think it was a bit of both ... Al being steered by the label but not necessarily forced. Some of the stuff before "With Sympathy" reminded me a bit of early Cure.

Well it would be nice if U could send me the 4 tracks I mentioned earlier coz I'm trying to buy the CD right now but the seller is not responding so it might take a little time B4 I get it.
To answer your question, I would say that collecting CD's is like collecting butterflies, coins or stamps. One can't expect a collection to be made only of beautiful species or items. To complete a collection we need some stuff which is not necessarily fantastic. To give U an example, I have almost all the albums of Siouxsie and the Banshees, the Cure, The Smiths,DM, The Waterboys, The Mission UK, The Sisters Of Mercy, The Psychedelic Furs,The Mighty Lemon Drops, Echo & the Bunnymen, Soft Cell, X'Mal Deutschland etc, etc. Are all those albums nice? Probably not but if U are a collector, U still need them. Regarding Ministry, I think With Sympathy deserves to be in a decent NW collection, so I will get it eheheh [;)]

Hey Obs, if U are willing to sell ur spare.... I'm willing to buy it

Sorry, missed this early. No, I think I'll hang onto it. The two copies I have are actually different, as one is DE, with different title (Work for Love) and the tracks are in a different order.

If I ever sell it, it would go on EBay but who knows if I ever will. I can never part with my goodies :). I just horde it all!

OK, I understand, so far I have not sold any of my CD's and even if I am under pressure from friends to sell them some of my spares, I have so far resisted ahahah. But well one of these days, I may change my mind... Anyway, I think that I will get it soon, I am now communicating with the seller..

However, I think if you're buying it just for status sake it's ridiculous.

Nan, it's not for status, I don't collect Ministry at all but I really like Revenge and Effigy . Meanwhile, the seller has relisted With Sympathy and I have already placed a bid on it. Since I never lose a bid ahahah I guess I will get it in a few weeks.[:D]

Do people realize how annoying and unnecessary it is to quote large blocks of text in their posts?

Yeah, like useless signatures too. The worse are ones like on Erasure forums where they quote some line like "Am I right, am I wrong, or am I just dreaming?" Hey, thanks, we all know the lyrics and don't need to see it 100 times.

I was on tour with Ministry (taking care of their keyboards) for a while in the mid-1990s. Al never told me this personally, but the word from some of the other band members was that if anyone mentioned With Sympathy to Al at all, in any context, he would fire you. I never tried it.
