MV3 Episodes....

Discussions about the golden age of MTV and music videos, directors, techniques, DVD releases, etc.

wow! I just watched those MV3 videos, great stuff. Man the memories came rushing back, Great job, thanks. By the way I think the Djarums and respatory problems are related, I used to buy the tin of like 10 non filter cigarettes for three times the price of regular cigs, I started coughing blood so I moved on to a milder Camel non filters. It has been 14 years since I quit all together but still love to smell the cloves here and there.

This is the coolest thing I have ever seen.

If Rhino released this on DVD I would buy it in a heartbeat.

Hey bhs, if you were on Square Pegs, did you ever get to meet Catlin Adams(ie Ms. Loomis the teaacher) on the show?

If so, I am in permanent envy. She looked exactly like someone who broke my heart.

Sorry British, that doesn't strike a chord.

LOL - I liked Jamie, my best friend liked Sarah... supposedly Sarah liked me, and Amy liked my friend - so nothing ever became of anything.

Tracy was professional - period. Merritt was totally cool. Jamie kinda had this imature East Coast or Midwest high society thing going on (a bit snobbish). Amy and Sarah (the ultimate stars) were totally cool.

I remember doing some stupid stunt driving next to Sarah and Amy on the freeway, enroute back to Hollywood from the High School Location... I had a sunroof, and my friend climbed almost completely out of the car while we were going about 55 - stupid - I don't remember why - probably just to show off (remember, he liked Sarah.

Typically speaking, we were in a holding area (with other extras - other girls) when not on camera. At that young age, we usually were scamming on anything scammable while waiting in the holding area (like was the case on most shows / movies we did then).

I remember the two shows with Richard Blade, and some random episode appearances. That is about the extent of my recollection.

ps

I don't know if Jamie was simply in character while on set - on and off camera... It is possible.... I remember thinking that her character on the show was not much of a stretch for her.

It is entirely possible that she was always in character

Conclusively, either she was a great actress, or a snob. But it was one or the other IMHO.

My God! I saw people on that video that I haven't seen for decades....Tony Gordon is one of them; used to dance at Phases, if I recall correctly.

That video is a godsend!!!!

Does anybody remember these following clubs? Phases, Hot Trax, Dillon's, Sherman Square Roller Rink, Rage, 7 Seas, Odyssey...etc..etc...

Man, those were good times! Did anybody on the NWO ever live in the San Fernando Valley? Let me know.

p.s. it's great to see that new wave is not dead!!!!

Strath,

I lived all over the LA area around that time. I do remember all those clubs and went to most ('cept Rage)... Having bounced between OC and Hollywood, I enjoyed a very unique time here in LA

If you remember the Odysey, do you also remember back a little further to Flippers, Osko's, and Cattlebaron's??? ... or later was Florentine Gardens.

Back in the day, Kristy McNichol was always at the Odysey with other girls before her "lesbianism" was ever public.

Seven Seas - now that was the best - the most innovative and cutting edge as I remember - now Disney has transformed it. If you watch the Hollywood driving scenes in "Valley Girl", you will catch a glimpse of the Seven Seas sign in the background.

Cheers

Even seeing the still shots from the show brought back a lot of memories. This was my favourite show when I was a teenager. My friend and I used to sit there every day trying to tape the show. I have no idea where those tapes are though. I remember this was the first time I ever saw non-mainstream videos such as Spoons' "Nova Heart", Depeche Mode's "See You", Pseudo Echo's "Listening", and Echo & Style's "Telephone", etc. I always thought the tv performances on the MV3 stage were so awesome. The MV3 dancers were the best though. I always associate myself with the new romantic looking guy on there. :) Anyways, if any company ever decided to released a complete dvd set of this show, I would buy it in a heartbeat. Rhino? One Way Records? Oglio? Anyone?

By the way, the show that came on after MV3 was called "Video One". It was not bad in itself but it was a little more mainstream. That show was hosted by only Richard Blade.

By the way, if anyone would like to trade New Wave videos on DVD, please let me know. I have a large collection of rare videos on DVD and will send my availability list along with my wish list. My email: seanng@aol.com

I have been trying to get copies of MV3 for years.I have asked people in the industry how to go about it and everyone has come back stumped.I was one of the original dancers, you couldn't miss me.I was a tall adam ant looking guy who switched from a new romantic look to rock-a-billy,it depended on my mood.I hung out at Seven Sea's and 321 in santa monica.Anybody out there remember.Gino's or the Tapestry in the valley?I tell younger pepole about those days and what they missed! You know your getting old when you talk to young people about the good ole days.I use to enter quite a few dance contest one in which I won at 321.The prize was money which sent me and my friend to Palm Springs for sp0ring break and also a copy of the album Dah,Dah,Dah I don't love you you don't love me A'ha.which was signed.Richard blade used to host these contest and I could actually call him a friend I think at the time.If I new now what I new then I would have hit him up for the tapes. Now I am left searching high and low.It sucks because back in 83 was just the start of the video recorder which I did not have.I also used to dance on American band stand.i wasn the episode with Adam Ant.i used to tour around later with Adam and I have some great pictures if anyone is interested?i also have some Billy Idol pictures which few people have ever seen while he was in the studio.(very professional)Anyway hook me up with some one who has the copies of MV3.Those would be very special for me to have. For everyone out there who cares!Debbie Diamond is in a group called the Januaries.God I haven't seen her in years. How about we organize a reuion with people from back then?Oh and yes it was chanel 9 and it was filmed near burbank off the 5 freeway in what looked to be a large garage.I think the name of the street started with a P.Next time I drive by I'll check. If anyone needs to get ahold of me you may do so at paultheactor@hotmail.com.take care and lets find those tapes! sincerly,Paul

With regards to the name MV3, it's obvious that the the "MV" stood for Music Video(s). The hard part I guess was figuring out what the "3" stood for. After thinking deeply, I think I figured it out. The three stood for the three announcers. How did I come up with that? After they terminated MV3, there was a show that came on called "Video One". That show only had pne announcer and that was Richard Blade, hence "One". I guess the other reason why they chose MV3 is because it sounds somewhat like MTV. Because of the popularity of MTV at the time, I guess the producers decided to have a name that was similar in sound. Oh well, what do you guys think?

Also, can someone confirm if the New Wave info below is still true to this date:

1) Soft Cell - Tainted Love (the longest number of weeks on the Billboard Top 100)
2) New Order - Blue Monday (the best selling 12" single of all time according to Billboard)
3) The Buggles - Video Killed The Radio Star (the first video ever one MTV, this one I don't need confirmation cause I know it's true) :) My question is, what was though is "Does anyone know what the second video ever was?"

1) Longest running from the 80's.

The record set by Soft Cell ( 43 weeks ) has been broken numerous times in the 90's and 00's.

I believe the current record is:

LeAnn Rimes - How Do I Live ( 69 weeks ) from 1997.

2) Yes ( will probably never be broken due to the format changes. )

3) Split Enz - History Never Repeats

Thank you so much for responding to my questions. That was really cool to get the info. I can't believe the second song ever on MTV was a song by the Split Enz. Would you know who was the first female vocalist to be featured on MTV?

MV3 fans, does anyone know which video was the first one ever played on the show?
