Nice to see a copy of "The Pearl" going to a good home! Hal was one of my teachers at Cal Arts. Our lessons always took place at "Tips," in the bar. They had the rum drinks with the umbrellas.

A note to people who know the area: I am speaking of Tips when it was on the "west" side of Rt 5, not the current location on the east side. It used to be twice the size it is now.

When I studied with him he was just starting a series of compositions in the style of what I think he called "Beautiful Music." At that time he would perform a beautiful, complex chord on the piano with the pedal down and let it ring to its natural conclusion.

It was a very nice solution for using traditional harmonic materials, which were very out of favor in compositional circles at that time, while remaining experimental in format.

Very nice!

was this before Eno/Budds "The Plateaux Of Mirror" (1980) --? I think the piano work on this is a little busier than "The Pearl"

What was lame about it? I've only been to one record show myself(In Detroit, wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy back in the day(like '91), and that was cool. I would imagine the atmosphere wasn't the same? everything's extremely overpriced?

How much was it to get in?

I wish they'd have a record show here in Vegas, that'd be cool.

I guess Im basing the "lameness" on past record shows, this one had about 10 - 15 less "booths" and the only sellers with good/great records charged an arm and a leg. I actually did manage to find a couple things that were pretty good (as listed) and it was only $5 to get it in. but overall - I don't think it was that great...
