I found this Mac port of the old BeOS app called Handbrake.

It's only beta but it rocks. Very easy to pull individual music videos off of DVDs for example. Great for carrying around mpegs instead of whole DVDs for favorite stuff you might not want the whole DVD for. Also for renting concert or video DVDs or checking them out from a good library and ripping your fav videos. Anyone else do this? Other apps? PC ones?

I've never ripped videos from DVD, but I've used VirtualDub and a TV card to convert VHS videos into MPEG files using the DivX codec. I was able to get very good picture quality while keeping the average file size for a music video down to around 25 megs.
I have over 150 videos (most of them New Wave and relatively rare prior to airing on VH1 Classic) that I converted using this method. Once I meet the requirements to join the hub (I'm in the process of ripping tracks from my CDs and CDRs and building a library of audio files) they will be available to anyone that wants them.
