The Blow Monkeys - Together/Alone (2024)

The Blow Monkeys - Together/Alone (2024)

Postby telekon3 » Sun Jun 02, 2024 10:56 pm

Several bands from the 80s have released new material trying to be "Modern" and failed.
The Blow Monkeys have released 7 new studio full-length albums since 2008.
The Blow Monkeys are always true to their brand of "Blue Eyed Soul" & Sophisti-pop.
Plus, Robert Howard's (Dr. Robert) voice sounds like it's still 1986.
One of the best singers of the 80s and never lost his chops.
Get caught up on the latter releases of one of the most sophisticated bands of the 80s

The Blow Monkeys are definitely NOT always true to their blue-eyed soul roots. Since 2008 they have released a lot of music, which sounds more like alternative pop/rock than their bright blend of pop/soul/jazz of the 80s. It often feels like Dr Robert is ashamed of their pop past.
That said, their latest album is indeed a return to their roots and is quite good. The only criticism I have is that they chose a slow song to open the album. Why some artists make such a decision is one big mystery to me.
