Was it in the 1st arrondisement? If so, you bought the same record I almost bought. They had a surprisingly good selection of early 80s vinyl at great prices. I would have to look at my notes for the name, but a short walk away I found a store with a fantastic selection of 80s music with the most ridiculously expensive prices. I considered bringing my $1 Amoeba Records finds over and selling them. This guy wanted 30 euros for Nina Hagen's "nunmonksexrock". I just got that at Amoeba for $2.99, so I'm thinking I take about 100 records with me and I can pay for my trip.

Pilon, it is refreshing/interesting to hear a non-American's experiences in the world of new wave vinyl collecting. I'm a power pop fan myself and have both 'Phil Seymour' and 'Phil Seymour 2' on lp. Like "Don't let Daddy find out" off the 2nd one. If you ever see it grab Dwight Twilley's "Twilley Don't Mind" - - the critics initially hated it but it's really a great power pop record by those two guys.

This week I picked up two:

The Transmitters "and we call that leisure time"
The Tigers "Savage Music"
$3 each...both worth a spin if you see them in the used bins...

Pilon,
thanks for the recommendations for those second-hand record shops in Paris. I love lists like those! Do they have a selection of tapes and/or CDs as well?

My local record shop got an original pressing of "Never Mind The Bollocks Here's The Sex Pistols" the other day, so I had to buy it. Very happy to have that on vinyl.

Careful when you say "original" copy... there were a few different versions. The first one was yellow with a pink back with no songs listed, and is missing the song Sub-Mission. There was a 7" and a poster included with the album.

The second pressing included Sub-Mission and song titles on the back sleeve.

The US pressing was pink on the front and green on the back with a printed inner sleeve.

(sorry if I seem like I'm raining on your parade, I just don't want you to have paid for an "original" and gotten a later pressing)

Oh no no no, it's fine. It wasn't very expensive at all, I didn't buy it for its rarity, I just feel like a better person for owning a copy on vinyl. :)

My copy of 'Never Mind' is nothing fancy, the plain old American Warner Brothers version (w/ Submission), but I'll tell you what - - - there aren't many records in my collection that had the impact that one did. I get goosebumps just THINKING about the songs on that lp. No matter what anyone says, natephish, you ARE a better person for having a copy of it on vinyl!!!!

Anyway.... picked up some interesting titles last night, none more than $5....

Western Eyes - self titled

a;GRUHM - Bloody Side ep (typical Wax Traxy sound, quite good in that genre - I went through a total Wax Trax phase in the mid to late 80's)

Sheena and the Rokkets - self titled - Japanese group

Hazel O'Connor - Breaking Glass (based on your recommendations)

The Pet Clams - (ditto)

The Defectors - (ditto again)

Chrome - Inworlds (this is a 2-song 12-inch single, and I think it's really great. Give it a spin if you ever come across it)

...It's not uncommon for me to jot down names of artists I'm unfamiliar with that were mentioned here on the board, then look for them in the local vinyl bins.

There was a record show today, so I drove over and picked up as much as I could. I think it was a pretty good haul. I paid $1-5 for every album here, no more than $5 max for any one album. Let me know what you guys think!

After The Fire - Der Kommissar (sealed!)

Blue Nile, The - A Walk Across The Rooftops
Bongos, The - Drums Along The Hudson
Bongos, The - Numbers With Wings EP
Cuban Heels, The - Work Our Way To Heaven
Depeche Mode - Music For The Masses
Deserters - Deserters (sealed!)

Flock of Seagulls, A - The Story of a Young Heart
Game Theory - Pointed Accounts of People You Know
Get Wet - Get Wet
Greg Kihn Band - Kihntinued

Hooters, The - Nervous Night
Knack, The - Get The Knack
Level 42 - Running in the Family
Martha and the Muffins - Metro Music

New Order - Blue Monday (S)
Numan, Gary - The Pleasure Principle
Our Daughter's Wedding - Digital Cowboy EP
Polyrock - Polyrock

Also, a comp: "Modern Method and WBCN 104 FM Boston Present: A Wicked Good Time, Volume Two." It's a comp from 1981 of Boston's local punk and new wave bands. I just ripped it and have it shared in the hub, if anyone wants to give it a listen.
