What cool stuff have you picked up on vinyl lately

Discussions about vinyl records: rarities, obscurities and collectibles, promos, mixes, etc. DJ-related discussions are welcome as well as techniques for recording & restoring vinyl records to CD/MP3.

Bpdp3 - what did you think of Monsoon? I have that album & liked it a lot. I particularly liked Ever So Lonely.

I went through a middle eastern/arabic dance music phase for a while & found some pretty cool stuff.

It's actually one of my favorites on the list. Why hadn't I even heard of this record before? Very unique, especailly considering when it came out (prior to the later-80's 'world music phenom'). Still getting familiar with it; will go back and listen to the track you mentioned. WOW - someone else knew this one!!

The vocalist is Sheila Chandra; she's gone solo and released a number of albums, though none have interested me as much as the Monsoon material.

It seemed like her record company treated her like a second tier Ofra Haza. Didn't she sing a track with Peter Gabriel?

Most of my free time,is spend in vinyl discoveries, its true!i can't resist, everytime i find a vinyl store in my place or everywhere else.Bpdp3,just listened to Shoes, and although doesn't touch the glory days of ''black vinyl shoes'', its satisfying. What do you think about duffo? He was a real weirdo in Australia with his first band the Kush, until he was picked up by some managers, for a careere in England. In some moments, recalls the extravaganza of Tubes and the theatric vinietes of Sparks and Nomi.Great discoveries also,Furniture, the relaxing new wave of Pink Military and the Movies.

Vince Cadillac-modern boy(power pop)

Geza X-you godamm kids(experimental rock in Residents territory, from this weird punk producer)

Hounds-unleashed(punk spirited hard rock from 1979, with a great biker style cover, recommended!)

Thats all for today!!

Rubinoos-back to the drawning board(i think its rarest than their first one,but not so good)
Ekstasis-life in the shadows(a hidden treasure of this brilliant synth driven art rock band, from 1983.A bit of Screamers or Devo in a more normal style.anyone knows about this band?)
Go Go's-vacation.

I'm looking forward for Four out of Five doctors second lp, with no luck!Their first one is special and eccentric new wave pop, really great.Today i scored
Zwol-same album from 1979, a german Bowie clone, pretty interesting.

Damage-mini lp of minimal hardcore in Fugazi vein from 1990.And the second lp of Partridge Family-i know, one of the most hated acts-because its clean, shunny and nostalgic 70s pop.God bless David Cassidy and Monkees, too.

the Dogs were a great poppy/punk band. there was a 1999 bootleg compilation of their material called "Bite Back".

Here's a link to The Dogs story

http://www.nkvdrecords.com/dogs.htm

Singer/guitarist Dominique Laboubée died a few years back.
