Top Bands, Top Albums - KRAFTWERK

Postby hutter » Fri May 12, 2006 5:32 am

You choice and your comments as to why?

I've left off their first four albums (Organization, Kraftwerk 1, Kraftwerk 2, and Ralf & Florian) because they're only available as bootlegs, and were not all that good, and The Expo 2000 Remixes (as it was basically a one song CD, remixed every which was but loose) and Minimum Maximum (their "live" album).

Why was Kraftwerk not first, Blir? Or Devo, or Gary Numan? For shame!

Close call 'twixt Man Machine and Computer World, but the robots take over with a tidier album, and originality at there backs... (by the time Computer World came out, Kraftwerk was already being eclipsed by other electronic upstarts)

The Man Machine, of course. The Mix doesn't count for me since it's a compilation of some of their past work. It's a great compilation, but not a bona fide album with new material.

What can I say...I just hate how Kraftwerk is underappreciated, considering that electronic music (not to mention hip hop) would have turned out much different without their innovative music. Hell, there's plenty of electronic albums that I feel are better listens than Kraftwerk...but I'm going to play the role of a old fuddy duddy and say once again, "Sacriledge!!"

Uh...it wasn't a repackaging of old tracks. Kraftwerk spent several years in the studio remaking their old songs for The Mix...it was new stuff, albeit remakes of their old tunes. It counts. Sorta.

Hey, you're preaching to the altar boy, if you know what I mean (...?) I sing the praises of Kraftwerk all day long.....You'd probably be angry if I said that Orbital's 'Brown' album is better than any Kraftwerk record, but then, I guess deep down I'd be lying to myself....

super dated sounding......Kraftwerk just moves too slow (meaning their laboured work ethic)...although there is some cool stuff on the Tour De France soundtracks "album"

It doesn't count for me as an album of new material... and amg agrees.

AMG is run by schmucks...recording a song, even if it's one of your own, constitutes a new recording. New song? No...but the tracks on The Mix were different enough (and in some ways better) from the originals. No matter what AMG says, The Mix was a original album, albeit a unusual approach to a alternative to a greatest hits package.

I'm wondering the same thing myself. Knowing Kraftwerk, they probably nitpicked the packaging and will have it ready sometime around 2036.

I've been on a Kraftwerk tear as of late...read the last 'unauthorised' biography, and I purchased a bootleg DVD of all their tv interviews -official videos etc etc. What I have gathered is that Kraftwerk is the strangest band in Rock history, and easily one of the best. Hutter, meaning (ahem) the actual Hutter[:p] is a real oddball....dead serious about wanting to 'be' a robot.....
