New Wave re-issue label suggestions?

New Wave re-issue label suggestions?

Postby tgassen » Fri May 26, 2006 6:14 am

Hi all,

A long while ago I discussed here a restoration project I was producing for the 1982-1984 minimalist/electro New Wave band JACKET WEATHER.

They had one 6-song EP out in 1983, and also recorded an album that was unreleased. I was the producer, and I found all the master tapes and have now finally remastered and assembled the long-lost album with all the extra tracks, plus 6 previously un-mixed songs from REPTILE HOUSE (the band that Jacket Weather later became). 24 songs in all, plus a great package with liner notes, photos, etc.

The best way to describe Jacket Weather is a cross between Joy Division and the Young Marble Giants, with some Wall of Voodoo mixed in. ;) There were two Casiotone keyboards, and real drums and bass...

So now I'm turning to finding a record label that will understand these sounds. For those of you who might know the following labels, I'd like to hear if in your opinion these are in the right range to be interested: A Different Drum (USA), WSDP Records (Germany), Tomlab (Germany), We Rock Like Crazy (Germany), LTM (UK), Intelligent (Germany), Cohaagen Music (USA), Angel Productions (Norway), and Oglio Records (USA)?

Any suggestions for record labels are greatly appreciated. It's taken 25 years to finally finish this project, and now it's time for people to hear it! :) (A web page for the band and the re-issue will be up soon at www.purple-cactus.tv)

Thanks for any help...
Tim

I would suggest that you go DIY or online download only. No offense.

Still, I would love to hear them, especially after your description.

Thanks for the suggestions. The DIY route might be the only option. All of my other produced albums (in other alt rock genres) have been released by actual labels, but I don't even know if small labels for underground New Wave re-issues even exist?!?

Hence my list of labels found through Web searches and request for comments on them. I've worked with many small indie labels re-releasing '60s garage and '70s punk sounds, for instance, but are there similar labels for indie 1980s New Wave sounds?

This restoration has a CD booklet, liner notes with photos, etc already designed. A really nice package...

Thanks again for any help.

You may want to try Wounded Bird in the US or Cherry Red in the UK. My understanding of both DIfferent Drum and Cohaagen is that they focus on new bands with a strong synthpop or electro sound.

Ah, good stuff, many thanks -- and I had forgotten about Cherry Red!

Any other label feedback or ideas, mates? :)
