Morrissey, seconded. Can't sing. Can't play an instrument. Can't compose a melody. Can't write lyrics. Can't eat meat. Can't say he's gay. Don't drink, don't smoke, what can you do? Johnny Marr couldn't run far enough, that's for sure.

As for next wave groups, I'd have to say a three-way tie among Radiohead, The White Stripes and Arcade Fire. I'd like to exile anyone who dares to tell me Arcade Fire is brilliant. Those people don't need to be parroting Pitchfork... they need to be impaled with one.

It's got to be KISS. I give them credit for stringing out a THIRTY year career on the basis of just three or four good songs and lots of face paint. But jeez, doesn't this ride ever end?

If you're in your 50's, continuing the facade of youthful lust and rebellion in a desperate attempt to remain hip and relevant, just looks silly.

Put your tonue back in your mouth and put your shirt back on, Grandpa!

Morrissey solo, excluding "Viva". In particular his last 2 "acclaimed" CDs are a bore.

U2 haven't done anything worthwhile since "Unforgettable Fire".

Post-"Black Celebration" Depeche Mode.

The ColorField.

Early Beatles.

Vanilla Ice.

<br>REM by far. Never in the annals of the history of rock has such a mediocre group produced such a constant product of low quality that elicited such a great volume of critical spooge.

Also, Sonic Youth, the Grateful Dead, Patti Smith, Pearl Jam...

That rip on The Colourfield is particularly biting. I didn't thnk they'd be on the radar screen for this honor. Ouch!

Venkman was right: R.E.M. is annoyingly overrated.

Most overrated non-new wave 80's: Madonna

The Replacements (Utter shit)
The Pixies (Fatty and the Stoners)
Tin Drum-era Japan (I still don't get it)
The Damned (I tried, really I did, but a Best Of is all that's necessary)
Nirvana (THE WORST thing to happen to music. 12 years since Kurt vacated, yet the musical soundscape of today sounds just as bland and unchanged.)

GOD, how could I forget The Beatles?? So remarkably overrated, it's almost as if some people feel it's their duty to like them. Even Siouxsie can't make a Beatles song appealing to me...

Let the blood of the sacred cows flow! Very well put there Frank Chickens. [:)] To quote Steve Martin, "You English think you are *sooo* superior." [:D] (No offense meant... I married one in fact and I know darned well she is superior.) [:)]

Seriously though, I agree that The Beatles (I like calling them The Beat-less) are over rated. They started the whole cockamamey lyrically sensitive, pseudo-profound movement. "Misunderstood youth" can find its roots in their quasi-philosophical lyrics. Somebody's inner child wasn't slapped around enough. [:D]

As far as non-NW 80's annoyances, I will see your Madonna and raise you Tiffany and Debbie Gibson. Mwahahaha
